Triple child killer cleared for release
Discussion
Surprised to see this isn't already being discussed.
He's served 45 years for murdering three small children left in his care and impaling their bodies on a fence.

I read yesterday that the parole board thinks that it is 'unlikely' that he will reoffend.
Reassuring.
Actual quote from article:
It added: "The psychologist identified a number of factors which make it less likely that Mr McGreavy will reoffend in future.
"These included his improved self-control and the fact that Mr McGreavy has learnt to remain calm in stressful situations.
Like I said, reassuring.

It’s been raised elsewhere on the “scum of the earth “ thread.
Everybody seems to agree this kind of crime warrants full life term incarceration.
There is one chap on the thread who claims to be a publicly recognised expert in the field of the UK justice system who is particularly vocal on the subject.

After 45 years he will probably have a far harder time out of prison than in and I suspect it won’t be long before he does something purposely to go back. After so long in prison for any offence unless you’ve got family waiting for you how can you adjust?
Though thinking about this if I’d committed an act of evil like that I couldn’t live with myself let alone face the world again.

Unfortunately we live in a society where we do not kill people in revenge so we have to accept a jail system aimed at rehabilitation.
If we accept this we have to allow it to work regardless of who it is.
If someone is handed a whole life tarrif then so be it, otherwise they have as much chance as the next man at being rehabilitated and released.
I`d rather he`d been killed in revenge but hey ho.

Having followed a link on the afore mentioned thread I believe he should never never be allowed out.
To say he murdered 3 young children, is being inaccurate.
He turned on toddlers who he had cared for and played with for months.
He rendered those children into a condition unrecognisable as human, let alone toddlers.
With razor then pickaxe.
Then impaled the remains on a cast iron fence outside the family home, the one he had shared with them.
You cannot "cure" or "reform" someone of that level of bestiality.
What the hell are they thinking about..

The recent picture in the article seems to have been taken in the street. Has he already been out on licence?
I find it hard to believe they are willing to release him while the mother of those children is still alive.
He's spent some time in an open prison.I find it hard to believe they are willing to release him while the mother of those children is still alive.
From Wikipedia;
"In 2006, McGreavy again became headline news after he was transferred to an open prison and allowed to stay in a bail hostel in Liverpool. The Sun newspaper discovered and publicised this arrangement, featuring a front-page photo of McGreavy (released on temporary license) walking on a Liverpool street, which resulted in McGreavy's transfer back to a closed prison"

I imagine he was fairly locked down in jail, so no one could get to him.
Release him, I'm sure some vigilante justice will be coming his way to show him people have long memories.
What an insult to the family of the murdered children.
He’s also going into a world that is very different to the one he was deleted from in 1973. It’s a far smaller place now, with less hiding places.Release him, I'm sure some vigilante justice will be coming his way to show him people have long memories.

I'm sure he's perfectly fine, what could possibly go wrong?

I know I'm wrong, but how come the horrible people seem to live their 3 score and ten yet nice people, like friends and family, are struck down with horrible diseases.
Just seems that all the notorious killers from the 60s and 70s have managed to either still be alive or have lived to a ripe old age.

Prison gives them a relatively healthy lifestyle, and access to medical facilities / treatments you or I would have to pay for on the private. That’s probably got a lot to do with it.Just seems that all the notorious killers from the 60s and 70s have managed to either still be alive or have lived to a ripe old age.
