Robust debate is one thing, being harassed in the street and abused for simply doing your job is something else.
As stated, one MP has specifically called for it to be done to other MPs.
Does that make it OK?

McDonnell is a Muppet.

I wonder if it's less about the names and more to do with the fact that there are a lot of nutters out there and we've seen one MP already killed by one of them.

I think there's a point where we all need to step back a little and ask ourselves "Is this what we've become?".

Not OK at all except to McDonnell- he couldn't object without being a hypocritical little st, in which case he'd deserve it.

Smiler.

Quite right.

It's totally superfluous & serves no useful purpose.

McDonnell should be called out on his disgraceful whitterings.

I suspect he'll have changed his tune. It was reckless to say it then, more so now.

There was an MP on LBC just now basically saying she's afraid to go in and out of Parliament because she feels threatened - that's not healthy debate that's something else.

All seems part of a growing tendency to get angry over everything. As per the number of people who get apoplectic over trivial driving/cycling issues. Associated with an expectation of receiving respect for their views and desires whilst doing nothing to earn it.

Sorry but I have to disagree- he probably believes it even more now than he did then.

Not Sourbry, but this is what one female MP had to deal with:

You'd like to think that because a few extreme individuals, all of those with something in common with those extreme ones wouldn't be painted with the same brush too. scratchchin

I said that female MPs had been subjected to this sort of abuse. I immediately thought of Stella Creasy as I have property in Walthamstow. I have heard of similar abuse of other (female) MPs too. As such, I wouldn't be surprised if Soubry had been subjected to the same sort of threats, but I admit that I hadn't checked.

You would have thought if it was the case the BBC would have used it but all they have come up with is Nazi, liar and scum.
I totally agree if threats of violence have been used then action should be taken.

But if they can't take being called a few silly names they are in the wrong job.

AIUI the Nazi thing is a sideshow - these animals were advocating she should be sexually assaulted
Indeed - which often seems to be the standard 'go to' whenever the object of ire is female. It's a sad indictment of the mindset of some people.
Sounds like you're agreeing the Nazi bit is a sideshow there, but alright.

haven't read all the thread so apols if missed, but is it a criminal offence to call someone a nazi? confused I didn't think it was
I didn't think so to, any sensible person knows it's just a meaningless insult.

If I call someone a clown and they don't have a clown costume on or at home is that against the law to?
Because the two are totally comparable aren’t they
how about calling someone a "communist"? is that comparable in the great reckoning?

or a "feking retard"

or whatever is shouted out aimed as being an insult?
They didn’t call ger a communist, clown or fecking retard though, they called her a Nazi. Why not just deal with actually what happened rather than engaging in whataboutism
taking offence is too easy and has been discussed here many times - you can offend someone and should be allowed to without it being a criminal offence.

Farage has been hounded for years and plenty of people have said he can expect this due to his views (I remember someone in the SNP saying he should expect crowds to have a go at him when he comes to Scotland).

Now it's on the other foot they're calling for laws to be changed, it's typical one rule for you one rule for me by the establishment. Shouting words at people, is this really a crime? We've got police investigating this while innocent people are being stabbed on the streets.
