Hi Guys,

My first post (please be kind) lol.

I'm thinking of buying a 66 plate scirocco 1.4 TSI. I'm completely new to VW's so a bit clueless at the moment...

Does anyone have much experience of them? or any advice before i purchase?

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum. The earlier 1.4 TSI Sciroccos had problems with the timing chain and turbocharger/ supercharger. But a 66-plate should use the newer version from the Golf Mk7 (EA211) which is much better. And it will still be under warranty so nothing to worry about really smile

Thanks!

I've also seen another 15 plate scirocco (with higher spec), would this likely to have the newer version of the timing belt? I contacted dealer and they are not sure?

Any advice?

Cheers.

Basically:
If it’s 122bhp it’s a chain
If it’s 125bhp it’s a belt
The 160bhp twin charge engines are terrible but they were culled before the facelift in late 14/early 15

My twin charge engined scirocco was nice enough but the engine expired at 12000 miles.

New engine needed

My partner had a 2009 twin charge and it cost nearly £4K in 9 months... worst car we’ve ever had. Timing chain went, then the water pump and then the turbo!

I'd stick to the 66-plate one you mentioned at the start of the thread. The extra warranty is well worth having and the newer car will be worth more when you sell it on. Kit doesn't really add much extra value
