I don't think anyone should be driving a car after 80 years of age personally..... and why is the Prince driving anyway when he has access to personal drivers?
Plenty of spritely 80 year olds. Retesting maybe, but not an arbitrary age limit.
In fairness yes, knee jerk back in place, quite correct, re test. My Poppa is in this zone and still driving so i am not just being horrible because i am years off 80..... I do worry about him though and sort of wish he had to re test as he just won't stop driving....

The other car may been on the wrong side of the road.

Or travelling massively over the speed limit?
Neither of which would clear a driver of blame joining a major road from a minor one. You give way to traffic on the major road, regardless of what speed or direction they are travelling in either carriageway. Only if the fiat in this instance was doing double the speed limit would you maybe apportion blame 50/50.

If you think you only need to look to the right when turning left out of a junction you need to hand your PH card in on the way out.

Wonder who he's insured with?

Protected NCB will be ok but his premium is going to sting at renewal.

Seroiusly though - get orf the roads you muppet.

He was lucky not to kill someone or himself.

Perhaps he's 'taking one for the club' and he had a driver with him who had had a couple earlier.AFAIK the other 'passenger' hasn't been disclosed yet.

Were you there? Have you seen the accident report? Why do you apportion blame to him automatically? What speed was the other driver doing? Was there a mechanical issue?

PH, objective to the last.

I can't help but think somewhere in the back of my mind the Royal family were given as an example of people that "self insure", i.e. you place a bond / measure of wealth guarantee somewhere (value about £2 million to cover public liability limits required by "insurance policies") and on the basis of that don't have to take out an annual insurance policy (I know our work do similar, when I've had stuff damaged travelling on plane / in cars it is 'there is no insurance' send us your original and replacement receipts for the damaged items and we will pay so you are not out of pocket').

So imagine the other drivers call to their insurance.
"Hiya, a bit earlier I had a Mr. P. Edinburgh pull out in front of me"
"Yep, he showed me ID, that is fine"
"No, he said he has no insurance, something about it being for commoners, reg plate is xxxxx, says his wife wants to handle the claim in cash, I'm just letting you know about the incident as it is all over the news"
"Oh, you want to get your claims handling unit involved, I get extra for any cuts, grazes, sneezes or blisters caused you say"
"OK, lets unleash the cold callers on Mr. P then".
"Sorry, you didn't get my name earlier, I'll spell it for you F for Freddie, A for Ahmed, Y for Yacht, A for Arab, D for Dodi, we cool".

So prince Philip crashes his range rover but has a driver on hand to drive it for him - so why did he drive it?

Its a hard one I sure there would be plenty of people who could pass the old age driving test after having 6-7+ pints of beer. Does that mean they should be able to drive all the time in that state? It comes down to reaction speeds and judgement and these are hard to verify.

Any evidence that it was his fault, or that his reactions meant the accident could have been avoided?

Nope, thought not.

PS, did it amuse anyone else when they read this:

BBC News Site said:
The driver of the Kia suffered cuts, while the passenger sustained an arm injury, police said. Both were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn.

Yup,his fault it appears. Pulled out of the exit of Sandringham onto the A149 and into the path of a car travelling along the main road.

Yep, it made me chuckle when it was reported on Sky News earlier.

It may have been his fault, but plenty of younger people have fault accidents too. Doesn't mean he's a danger on the road.
