Not sure why hotels are the common denominator here but many years ago a large building was being converted into a 4 star hotel near Cardiff city centre. It was nearing the end of the contract and something happened (maybe someone in the chain went bust) which meant the electrical contractors weren’t going to get paid. Apparently they went into every room and cut all the wiring in the walls. Must have cost a fortune to put right.

Seems he was paid !

But an error at his bank meant the money went into his account on Monday rather than Friday

Bit of an epic fail

Only in self pity city !

Not wishing to be argumentative (for a change biggrin) but I can’t see how a bank error would delay the payment by ONE day. And when a payment fails it’s nearly always customer error, not the bank.

Also nobody goes Tonto for a payment received 1 day late - chances are it was several weeks late, they finally promised it by Friday, missed the cut-off time for BACS/CHAPS and his payment got added to the following day’s payment run, and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I work in haulage and we have done work for many of the big construction companies, lets just say that getting any money out of them is a nightmare.
They use all tactics to delay and obfuscate, from the old "wrong purchase order no." to the "we have changed company name and need you to re-submit" meaning a re-start to the 90 day terms many operate under.

I wont name names but there are two companies I wont do work for now.

I have heard of worse .Its when someone who is owed money feels the "Customer etc" is taking the piss , Been cocky and trying their luck . This brings out the "red mist" . If you owe money you pay it.Any troubles you make sure you communicate .If you take the piss , expect bad things to happen .Even if years later :-)

There are lots of things we don't know. Like was he a tradesman or a labourer... £600 would mean £750 before tax so if it was a weeks wages that is £150 a day. Not sure of prices up there but down here in the south painters, labourers and groundworkers are paid nearer £120 a day...Skilled trades down here are in the £2-300 range a day...You do have to think that this was an ongoing problem rather than a one off error though.

It’s also reported that he had been seeking help in recent weeks for mental health issues and that he was employed by a sub contractor

They will have all had a toolbox talk and passed H&S exams. Going anywhere near that digger would be grounds for instant dismissal from the site. I doubt the guy who tried to stop him is still working there. They no longer tolerate blatant breaches of H&S procedure on building sites...
Well I just hope the idiot in the digger had been inducted, sign in that day and had a present CSCS card on him, plus his standard PPE of course. Public liability insurance wouldn’t go amiss either.

£600? That's a year's wage for a Scouser.
I’m not sure why I came in here as I knew I’d come across a nobhead comment.
Visit the city for the weekend. Stay out of the town centre. You might just enjoy yourself.
Already have done. Even though it was way back in 1985. At that time in the city centre, it seemed to be fashionable for certain people to kick in shop doors. I noticed that one department store had doors of three-inch thick reinforced glass.

As I understand it, the gofundme will pay out to the person who started it and it's then up to them to pass the cash on to digger man. Which I'm sure they will angel
If the gofundme money is handed over to the offender couldn't it be confiscated under the proceeds of crime act?

Standards are slipping 'round 'ere. rolleyes

PS The digger driver is from London (originally).

He's currently being treated for mental health issues, unsurprisingly.

Same/similar issue last month ballsed up my sister's mortgage chain going through properly, with significant consequences for everyone else in the chain, though not as significant as a mini digger through the door
