Carroll was jailed for 27 months and banned from driving for four years. Effective deterrent, obviously.

I wonder why the driver got less time, fewer previous convictions perhaps?

He pleaded guilty so would get an automatic reduction in sentence.

I know you shouldn't judge a book by the cover, but have you seen the state of them?
They look like they should be on a Wanted Dead or Alive poster from the Wild West.
Wrong 'uns to the core.

What can you say?

Death penalty once again seems the only answer to me, especially for the driver.

The country is skint, I would rather see my hard earned taxes go towards decent causes rather than paying to keep these feral morons in and out of the justice system for the rest of their lives.

I have to say, the guy on the left, 'Karn Hill', has a father that's also his grandfather. For sure.

I still don't understand why someone should get a reduced sentence for pleading guilty.

It's not like this tt could do anything else considering the footage.

I can hear the distant sound of a banjo being played.

It's a resources thing, rather than a fairness thing. If there was no reduced sentencing for guilty pleas, nobody would plead guilty for anything, and everything would go to trial at great expense even when it's bloody obvious they did it.

I've always though the resources thing as well as:
It spares the victims / relatives the ordeal of a trial & having to relive what happened to them
It incentivises honesty & starts the process of rehabilitation
It makes those with more marginal cases more 'honest'

Fair enough, though why not do it the other way? Slap a perverting justice charge on top of the sentence for anyone who pleads not guilty and is subsequently found guilty .
The incentive is still there, but you aren't seen to be doing the criminal any favours.

As well as the dead lady, have to feel sorry for the residents of the house they crashed into as well, even if they had full buildings and contents insurance that will have been tremendous upheaval for them and no way will they have been compensated enough.

If found guilty you already face sentencing for the crime
AIUI you can't get prosecuted for PCOJ by lying in court as part of your own defence, some sort of special privilege applies

I would like to see the lot of them tied to the front of whats left of the lorry and it be driven round at high speed by remote control
maybe into a delilict building , we could have duelling banjos as the sound track !!
