Tried it out, didn't really work out so well, fancy coming back and picking up a temp job in the town for the summer to assess my options.

But seriously, what's the chances that these individuals feel so alienated and hated by the general public that they flip at some point in the future? Integrate they will not. Cost the tax payer st loads for the rest of their natural lives they will.

Honestly, they are better off staying right where they are.

I don't see how we get to disown our own problems. If Syria want rid, we have to take him.

What's his status? POW? Syria could release him and save themselves feeding and housing him.

I suppose if we were that kind of a cruel society that really believe in retributive justice, then we should let him watch Dr Who.

Dual national. Don’t think Canada want him back either...

It’s pretty clear to me the message that the powers that be are sending out with these (mental) cases.

You turn your back on us and we turn our back on you.

As I understand it you can only remove citizenship from someone if they’ve got dual citizenship and somewhere else to go?

If that’s the case, does that mean we could have a race against Canada, in this case, to see who gets to get rid of him? Or does one citizenship take precedence?

Personally I think we should repatriate the pair of them (they are ours after all) and have them face justice for their crimes.

Yup. Those 3 years spent smoking Spice and working out in the prison weight room will really teach them.

By focusing on individual cases I think the larger picture is sometimes missed - we have already let hundreds back in (and could only prosecute 1 in 10 returning Jihadis).

Legally I suppose we had to let them back however it’s going to take some effort for the security services to keep an eye on them for the next few years or potentially the rest of their lives.

It's isn't just the two of them though. According to the article linked above Jack Letts married an Iraqi woman and they have a child.

Private Island off the coast, build a nice secure holding/prison and ship them there, never again to be allowed out in general population.

How do these types make it back? Does the government send out flights to collect them or do they make the trip via Europe with the migrant groups?

And once back, they get a central London apartment I believe. And a Jag. And a Waitrose credit card.

By focusing on the broader picture you may well miss what is glaringly obvious in these high profile cases which is the fact that the individuals are now known to the entire population of the UK (and then some).

They will not be able to intigrate in any meaningful way because any community will make them outcasts.

Maybe Canada isn’t such a bad option for Jackie boy. Send him up into the Yukon in a hut somewhere far away from all other humans and let him fend for himself, see how he goes after 1 winter.

It's at the stage now where I wouldn't be surprised if we actually have people who go to Heathrow with ' welcome home ' signs for this lot.

He may regret coming back
Does he know Dr Who is a woman now ?
It may be enough to tip him over the edge
