"In 2018, it became particularly known as a term to describe middle-aged or older white men, particularly those on the political right or who supported Brexit"

So...age, race, voting preference and nationality all covered. If it's wrong why not edit Wikipedia?

Even as an ardent leave supporter I'm dismayed by the League of Gammon. I don't really want to be lumped in with people like Jeremy Clarkson and Nigel Farage, much less their tabloid reading analogues in real life.

This march is stupid. To Farage leaving the EU is just a self-imposed geas to avoid the fact that he'll never be an MP, the march is just a part of his ego trip.
Jeremy Clarkson is a publicly declared Remainer.

When it comes to the 'gammon' term, does it only apply to older white men that voted to leave in the EU referendum, or does it apply to all older white men irrespective of nationality or voting preference?
Neither.

It's not about age, race, nationality or voting preference.
Not wishing to take this too far off topic, but what is gammon about then?
Is it simply the colour of the skin on the face?

I've read a few online descriptions for it, some seem to pin it to older leave voters.
It's a pejorative term for people who get all worked up, angry and shouty, now unless being worked up, angry and shouty is a race I'm not sure how on earth it could be racist.
They do have to be white, though. If they were black or brown, then you wouldn't be able to see their droopy jowls turning the colour of gammon when they get worked up which is, I think, the original motivation for the term?

Apart from the fact that this is cr*p.

The term gammon as a political insult came into use after an edition of question time, referring to old working class white men, it had nothing to do with some obscure passage in Dickens long since forgotten.

The "woke" don't like the fact their new favourite insult is racist, classist and ageist so have to think up some b*llox why it is acceptable.

How does that equate to Gammon not being vote relateted?

Please explain how it is racist?

And as for classist and ageist, you can be young, lower/working class and Gammon, unless you are now taking a wikipedia entry as gospel, in which case, can you tell me how the term gammon falls within wikipedia's meaning of Racist.

Better that than a retard who refers to his political opponents as "Brexiturds"

If the "debate" since the referendum result has confirmed anything it is the rightness of the decision not to be associated with many of those who back Remain. You have revealed yourselves in your true colours.

Touché

But I read the post as even as a leaver he didn't want to be lumped in with the other leavers that are 'gammon', I may have misread it.

Nigel has been a pain in the backside of the EU for fifteen years or more, fine job almost complete. Not many politicians can single handed recieve the support of 17.4 million voters.

You need to see that post in the context of who I was replying to.
And as I have stated before I supported brexit right until the last moment when I saw looked at the shower of st that was going implement it and voted to remain.

Enjoy your victimhood.

You think all 17.4 million people who voted leave support Nigel Farage? I know a few Leavers who can't stand him.

How's his record in trying to become an MP?

You have to acknowledge that this politician has achieved a seismic change in the way U.K. does its politics. A good shake-up was long overdue, and of course the cherry on top of our cake - brexit. Well done nige, you get my vote anytime.
What we need is a proper statesman to unite the kingdom, all hail,

Nigel "I just want to give people something to focus thier hate on" Farage.

He had fortuitous timing to implement Alan Sked's writings.

So Dominic Cummings, Michael Gove, Boris Johnson, IDS, had nothing to do with it then?

Her having red cheeks because of a disease is not in her control or a symptom of getting all worked up and shouty, calling her a 'Gammon' as a pejorative term would be rather horrible.

Context in which words are used is very important.
