I agree part of being British is tolerance, respect for free speech, and the rule of law. Close the door when you leave.
And yet Scotland has now moved hate crime laws inside of your own house.Edited by Mrr T on Tuesday 16th March 21:33

My decision to move out of the UK is for a new challenge, the fun of living in a different country and some enjoying different views from my windows it had nothing to do with the brexit vote.
Where have you moved to then?Edited by Mrr T on Tuesday 16th March 21:33
Most people who say they are going to emigrate never get beyond talking about it, so we’ll done for actually getting on with it.

I have said it will be Romania. Covid 19 makes it impossible to house hunt but hopefully from mid year we can start.
Ah, will be, so you’ve not actually moved yet. Well, good luck when you do.What would you say most attracts you to Romania? Is it the massive corruption, the huge prevalence of racism, or the crushing poverty that so many of the population live in?

If you do a search on for example child poverty in Europe the UK is not doing well. Add to that BJ and chums are now handing out contracts and job to all their mates should you be looking to leave the UK?
The biggest draw is we want to live somewhere that I can look out of a window and say wow. I can do that in the Carpathian's. Described as Europe's last real wilderness.
As for house prices they are 10% lower than the rest of Europe excluding the UK. Its funny few in the UK do not realise in terms of house prices the UK is the odd one out.
As for beer just below a £1 in a bar on the pavement in the sun watching the world go by. Add a excellent meal and likely about £50 for 2.
The only down side for me is, while it's a romance language, its not an easy one to learn.

If you used those metrics to decide where to live then you exclude many country you might want to live in, such as the US.

Are you on crack? Corruption and poverty in Romania is off the scale compared the the U.K. or the US. A large fraction of the population lives in abject poverty, on less than £1,000 per year. But yes, if you move from a rich country like the U.K. then indeed you can live very cheaply, and of course you are staying close enough that we can’t be certain that you’ll be able to pop back when you need to make use of the NHS.
Edited to add some data.
Child poverty rate in the UK is 6%, in Romania it’s 72%;
https://www.unicef-irc.org/publications/pdf/rc10_e...
UK is 11th in the world corruption index, Romania is 60th.
By all means go somewhere that your savings will stretch further, but don’t pretend that Romania is ahead of the UK on any of the normal measures of what makes a country a good one.

Not sure where your figures come from but average wage on PPP is about €2200 per month. The UK is about 50% more but a Romanian can still buy a flat in Bucharest for €100k.But yes, if you move from a rich country like the U.K. then indeed you can live very cheaply, and of course you are staying close enough that we can’t be certain that you’ll be able to pop back when you need to make use of the NHS.

Can I suggest you spend some time visiting the country. Only then can you judge.

I will admit I have never been to Workington. Does it look like this?https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpathian_Mountai...

Weren't you one of those telling us that foregoing some fraction of a percent of GDP growth by 2030 was economic suicide? Can I suggest you spend some time visiting the country. Only then can you judge.

If you define "poverty" as being below 60% of median income then you are going to find "poverty" in the richest countries.

My figures are from UNICEF, you can tell that because if the link from UNICEF that I provided which includes them. Can I suggest you spend some time visiting the country. Only then can you judge.
You haven’t even looked at them, have you?
As I said, if what you want is somewhere cheap, based on the utter poverty of so many of the population then that’s fine, but don’t pretend that you aren’t moving somewhere with massive problems of the sort that are simply unknown in the UK.

Figures matter when he wants to criticize the UK, figures don’t matter when he wants to be served his £1 beer by a young girl who’d do anything to feed her family.Northernboy said:

I looked at it. I also looked at the date which was 2012. So almost 10 years old.
Here’s something more recent then. If you are willing to move to Romania to take advantage of the cheap beer that is directly related to the extreme poverty then you have lost any right to criticize the UK, which goes far, far better on all of the important measures.https://www.romania-insider.com/children-poverty-r...
