The level of media coverage does bother me though as surely this is exactly what the perpetrators of these attacks on both sides are looking for?
Sadly we’ll probably get a court case exhibition like Anders BB gave. Hoping it’ll be behind closed doors instead.

Does anyone still dispute the link between Muslim immigration and violence?
Thomas Violence' reply is the best.

I've read the same thing on N,P and E plenty of times.

This is what happens when the hard right gets a toe hold.
You are as bad as him (the writer)...it is what happens when ANY extremist/mentalist gets activated for whatever reason.

Stop trying to insert a political agenda you @@@@@

That's helpful. rolleyes

I can see his political career disappearing.
You'd be surprised, significant sections of the Australian public make Alabama look progressive - and I'm not joking or exaggerating.

I got myself a VPN and spent some time in right wing website world.

No amount of showers can erase the filth that I read. it is truly barbaric. A pal in the intelligence community warned me but Jesus, it's a grim place these people inhabit - like their souls have cancer. They're the same as ISIS.

As i said elsewhere, Trump's rhetoric, TR, EDL -they're the shallows of a very deep and dark pond, at the bottom of which sit the nutters who did this. Have a grown up and frank discussion about immigration, religion etc, but FFS, don't play with the dark side.

Having lived there, sadly I can concur - now this is not saying ALL Australians are like this that would be ridiculous and the type of rhetoric that people like Yaxley-Lennon use but they do have an issue with racism

The book isn’t about Islamists. It isn’t about extreme interpretations of Islam. It says “Muslims kill”. It groups together Muslims and says they kill. It legitimises attacks against any and all Muslims. And here we are.
The grouping together of people, in order to create segregations is the real evil. Left, right, Christian, Muslim, all convenient ways of separating otherwise, generally, fairly ordinary people and can be used to set them against one another.

I'm sure he said exactly the same on any Islamic terrorism thread.

Before the most recent 1/2 dozen posts this was a relatively civil place. Might we be able to step back, just a little.

Whereas the UK is a utopian multiracial wonderland where everyone sits around a campfire in the evening, singing and hugging each other?

That's as maybe but this is an Australian Senator, not some keyboard chump on the internet.

You have to remember this is in New Zealand and Australia is not much better. No disrespect to them at all, but it's a bit like Britain was 30 years or so ago, so a somewhat "backward" statement like that is hardly a surprise, ie it's content. However, the timing of is it quite incredible. What sort of crass fool would release such a thing now! 2 weeks down the line, and I can sort of get it, if that is truly how he feels. But today....WTF? Trying to make political mileage as Oz is one of the most draconian places on earth with regards to things like immigration.

As for live streaming it, etc, it's even more of a barbaric act. I sense he is some fame seeker, not someone with misplaced political or religious ideals, just some who wants to be "famous". Let's hope there's a news black out and no one ever knows who the fk he is and he rots for 50 years in a stty prison.

Condolences to all involved and affected. A truly terrible act of cowardice
