How do we think EU negotiations will go? (Vol 10)

Not so sure. I formed my opinion after listening to the whole of Geoffery Cox’s statement in Parliament, the set of circumstances in which N.I. would end up ‘trapped’ and have different arrangements to the rest of the UK seem unlikely. I think he knows a bit about legal stuff.
The alternatives to it, to which would avoid a backstop being necessary, seems to offer such soft Brexits we may as well not bother.
Leaving with no deal would not need a backstop. Both UK and Ireland have said they won't implement any border infrastructure and would manage the required controls away from the border. The alternatives to it, to which would avoid a backstop being necessary, seems to offer such soft Brexits we may as well not bother.
It's a completely contrived requirement used to strong arm the UK and should be rejected.

I wonder if they would regret it in a few years, when their benefits have stopped & they are eating gruel 41% want no deal.

Thankfully Parliament & EU will save them from themselves, although it would be an interesting experiment !

Why are you so hung up on one? We have a massive trade deficit with EU. We don't need to have one. Life will continue. We will implement our tariff rates. Some EU goods will attract tariffs or not. UK goods may or may not attract tariffs from the EU. We will have access to a wider range of cheaper fungible goods which will bring competitive pressure to bear on all suppliers (EU included) - if Spanish oranges are made to compete on all fours with Jaffa and Outspan, the Spaniards will need to lower their prices to compete.
This is one of the main reasons the EU wants to trap us in a restricted trade deal and, sadly, half the country has fallen for the scam.

My only interest in them is to confirm my own belief that Parliament’s position on no deal is correct and that no deal has never had majority support from the electorate.

What nonsense. On what basis do you think they'd refuse a trade deal with the country that manages one third of the entire EU debt, and currently has a trade deficit with them worth billions? They're teetering on the edge of recession and we're leaders on a whole range of technology and pharmaceuticals. When one of their largest customers would be looking to buy directly from their competitors, you can bet a trade deal would arrive.

leaving with no deal will not stop the eu insisting on the backstop
