That, at least, is good to read. This type of assaulting those on the campaign trail needs to be stopped before someone justifies something more substantial than a milkshake or egg etc.

i have a funny feeling she is not alone in that. we have recently lost my mother in law (after a serious long term illness) and my wife's grandmother. experience of what happened to my grandparents when they went into care played a huge part in both of us doing whatever it took to keep my wife's mum and gran living at home until the last possible moment. it has had a huge impact on our family life and financial situation over the last 6 years but we would both do it all over again.i still regret not being able to do the same for my grandparents.Retired, and massive broad experience in the job at a lowly and more recently senior operational level in a very sensitive politically charged area (building and running LAC across 3 LA’s).
She is also disgusted with the level of care exhibited when recently visiting several relatives varying from issues of childbirth to stroke and dementia care. And I mean seriously disgusted.
What a shambles that is between NHS and LA’s. Basically, both will try to avoid any assessment that means they will have to pay for CHV. Been fighting one on a medical basis for 2 years now. Sadly, the relative died (related to poor response to health conditions clearly stated on the assessment but ignored in the DST scoring - ‘cos that means they have to pay for it and not the family) but even using their own Decision Support Tool and their own DST evidence against them, it is not resolved and at NHS England level now.
The funny thing was the local resolution meeting, when there was supposed to be a CHC Chair there, a note taker, and the assessment nurse. We rolled up at the meeting and were presented with a note taker, the senior nurse (manager) of the person who wrote the duff assessment and the same guy acting as the CHC Chair! Naturally it was a waste of time meeting with a pre-determined outcome, but he did have to concede many of the assessment categories and upgrade them. Corrupt to the core, and many more examples of corruption, whitewashing, scapegoating and waste of resources during her time in the service.
All I hear from her is “this would never happen in my ward” when visiting folks. Either she wouldn’t let it happen, or when junior, matron would really come down hard on some of the lax practices today.
That reminds me, I must chase up NHS England as they are 5 months late responding to us!

Yes, that’ll be the one. The same one that changed the rules on the length of time a foreign (non E.U. of course) surgeon had to be established in the UK before he could qualify to do the highly paid job he had been doing successfully for 6 years. The net result was that he was demoted way below the direct reports he used to have reporting to him and paid a massively reduced salary commensurate with his new lowly grade.It went legal. Every pre-trial offer from the NHS was significant but had a gagging order on it. He wasn’t short of money and refused every offer, even when he was advised that what was offered (in the millions) was twice the maximum amount allowable if they were found in the wrong.
He was a principled man. He won his case, but was awarded a lesser amount than the NHS finally offered to gag him (which he gave to charity) but did retain his freedom to talk publicly about his situation.
Yes, that NHS.

This, most of the best nurses don't have or need a degree. Something I did see was excitement at lowering the mandatory theory/placement hours once we leave the EU as it’ll reduce the workload for student nurses
So my manifesto would include reintroduction of nursing bursaries but with more stringent selection criteria probably being required.
