Vauxhall Bridge. Now this is a dangerous game they're playing. Some of the motorbikes went the wrong way around the island to get past while the other motorists made their displeasure known by sounding their horns.
Following on from previous comments on here about the potential for road rage/ramming the persistence of this type of behaviour might well see an unfortunate incident take place in the near future.

For those wondering why one might object to XR's idea of saving the planet:

A temper tantrum by mostly middle-class protesters to bring London to a halt will do nothing to help the climate and a lot to ruin ordinary people’s lives. They want net zero carbon dioxide emissions from the UK economy by 2025 to avoid “extinction”.

I am not sure they have thought this through. That target would mean scrapping more than 60 million gas boilers and car engines. Because there is not time to build a fleet of nuclear plants by then, replacing all that combustion with emission-free electricity would require carpeting the entire country and most of another country somewhere with wind turbines (made using 150 tonnes of coal each) or solar panels (made with mined metals) to the detriment of birds, forests and landscapes.

They protest that Britain is doing nothing about climate change. Not true. No country has enacted a more draconian set of emissions targets, but try protesting in Russia or China — it would not be such a walk in the park.

So far, analysis has shown, our policies have resulted in higher energy costs, borne disproportionately by the poor, and no greater emissions reduction than if we had gone for gas instead.

If it is extinction the protesters are worried about, they are aiming at the wrong target. Most species extinctions are the result of invasive alien species and habitat loss, itself encouraged by misguided climate policies to turn forests into fuel.

If it is human life they are concerned about, they should know that deaths from storms, droughts and floods have fallen by 98 per cent in a century, but about three million people a year die from the effect of indoor smoke caused by cooking over wood fires (harvested from wild forests) because of lack of access to gas or electricity.

Far from prosperity being the problem, it is the answer. It weans people off habitat-destroying dependence on burning wood, and it leads to reforestation, the creation of nature reserves and the return of wildlife. Why are wolves increasing, lions decreasing and tigers now holding their own? Because wolves live in rich countries, lions in poor countries and tigers in middle-income countries.

The protesters have been duped into old fashioned anti-capitalism. The campaigner George Monbiot gave the game away this week when he said the point of these protests was “to go straight to the heart of capitalism to overthrow it”.

As for weaning civilisation off emissions, we will crack this problem with research, not exhibitionism.

Gammon? Oh really... Crack on then gammon face.
I am racist then... Fine.
1) Do gammons get stopped and searched?
2) Do gammons have a history of being used as slaves traded around the globe?
3) Do gammons struggle to get jobs for being gammon?
4) Do gammons get st posted through letter box and shunned when they moved into a neighborhood?.....

1) Yes. I worked in London during the times of the IRA bombing and frequently got stopped and searched as I fitted the visual profile of those involved in the bombing. A minor delay which I appreciate would lead to me being safer, so no problem with that. Same as getting a tug for a random breath test, no problem I don’t drink and drive but could fit their profile for other more general reasons, such as the time of day or specific age etc. My other half also used to get frequently stopped and searched when she lived in North London, but for the reason you are pointing to. Can’t see the difference personally.

2) Depends how far you want to go back in history and make it seem relevant to today’s very different world.

3) Profiling for recruits exists, for example where an organisation wishes to balance its “ethnicity profile” with its external PC perception. Under such circumstances, gammons will be adversely impacted. There was a post on here a few days ago showing such a recruitment policy from a major concern with complete indifference to the ability to do the job. The Police regularly recruit in order to operate more acceptably with the local population.

4) Really depends which country you choose to live in as a gammon immigrant. Doesn’t happen too much in predominantly white, Christian countries, but fairly common in less inclusive countries across the globe. Maybe gammonism isn’t the entire reason, probably culture and religion are a contributor to discrimination by the indigenous population in key areas - who knows, it differs in each culture.

BTW, I am also white and English. My other half is a Jamaican immigrant, not that I see that making any difference but just stating in kind.

One lead from the Extinction website goes to the 'million green jobs' site, which is worth a read...

A proposal to create 1 million public sector jobs for 20 years. Funded by taxes on the wealthy. It's all there on their site in a paper giving the methodology behind the proposal. Research funded by the TUC recommends union jobs shocker.

However they get their timetables mixed up - ER want us zero carbon by 2025, but the million loafers give it 20 years before we see the difference.

Not that it matters.

Ok let's be honest here, does the word 'gammon' really offend you? And do you think it is racist to use it as a white person to a white person?
If someone called me gammon I'd think it was an insult but not racist...
.
Would you be questioning his right to offence if he wasn't white?

Was reading about one of those arrested.

Genuinely surprised the country was able to function during her detention, how did we manage witbout a co-ordinator for a charity providing life skills training to prisoners through the medium of Indonesian percussion?

I don't know why they think being disruptive will help their cause. All it does is piss people off and then no-one wants to listen to their ideas (although in this case their ideas sound bat st).

For the government its like negotiating with terrorists to listen to this lot. No one is going to change policy because a load of Trustafarians have caused a bunch of agro. Do that and they will all be at.

The three that glued themselves to the train yesterday will spend at least a month in jail, having had bail denied,

If they have a job, I hope they lose it.

No, almost nothing offends me. People are entitled to their opinion. Some express it less intelligently than others, but such is life.

I tend to live my life treating each person as an individual. As you say, a (word substitute) fool is a fool irrespective of anything else. We have to tolerate fools whether they are Robinson and his ilk, or Abbot, Lammy and their ilk.

It's laughable that they say they will cancel the Tube shutdown if Teresa May meets with them. She's busy trying to get scraps from Brussels but they want to negotiate with her on banning planes, arguably one of the biggest boon to the world economy.

It’s a joke. With rising crime most not even looked into the police have got better things to do. Bet a lot of them have had to give up their annual leave meaning time not spent with families.

Well I gurantee there would be a thread about it on PH...

Of you think gammon Is racist please report me to the police as a gate crime.

Anyway these protesters are s all protesters are s.
But I can't help thinking that they would take great glee in pissing off you lot on a car forum.
I find a bit of glee in the outrage from some of you lot of I am honest.
You seem angry. Between this and your contribution on the Corbyn thread that the ‘Jews get a free pass’...

Maybe take a chill pill...
