They'll ban growing weed so the growing space can be turned over to re-wilding. Oh hang on - the crusties have a penchant for smoking the stuff!!! hippy
They aren’t crustiest though this is a massive underestimation of the type of people who make up their numbers.

My friend is involved, he is an IT manager. His brother is involved, he is an engineer. My cousin is involved she is a councillor. I’m not defending them I think they’re deluded but they aren’t the stereotypical smelly hippies they are relatively normal folk and that’s part of the problem, there are a lot more of them than there would be if they were niche hippies. Almost an unlimited number in fact.

These days 'middle class hippies' are a well-known phenomenon and get lumped in with the crusty crusties beside them

Mass hysteria can infect all social groups, it has an emotional not a rational basis.

I believe "useful idiots" is the collective term for such fellow travellers.

XR are now banned from protesting in the whole of London: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/1...

So the futile protest is over for now. I am sure they will come up with something else. Guerrilla protests at airports sprigs to mind as causing lots of grief and disruption.
Damn. Their well reasoned debate was beginning to win me round, and I did so want to become a member of a pseudo religious belief system with no basis in reality.

Oh well, maybe next year. frown

They've called the decision to ban them "an outrage".

Their leader certainly isn't the type that I'd go for: https://metro.co.uk/2019/10/15/police-move-remove-...

I just noticed the text in the URL! hehe

Leader arrested after trying to break a window with a hammer and screwdriver.

The protesters seem to spend a surprising amount of time trying and failing to do things...it's almost like they are a bit clueless.

I almost admire the rather British amateurishness of it all.

Almost.

Nigel Farage asks ER woman -"If you're really so worried about CO2, and you clearly are, instead of blocking up the roads in London why aren't you out planting trees instead?"

It's not that small, the doctor is just holding the wrong end of it. Apparently she hasn't quite got the hang of the noble art of window smashing.

It's noticeable that the idiots who were pandering to these crusties over the summer have now gone quiet, except the Guardian obviously, who seem to be doubling down every dat. Step back from the mentalists and don't make any sudden moves. We'll all be dead by tea time anyway.

IIRC, didn't Rupert Read (of XR) on QT last Thursday claim the Govs efforts re CC were akin to 'Dads Army' ?

Stunts like this and the Fire Tender fake blood effort makes that claim to be slightly hypocritical to me ! rolleyes

I sincerely hope she's getting billed for the replacement of that custom glass panel, removal of those stupid stickers she's slapped everywhere, and the cost of the cherry picker and manpower to get her down. What exactly was the point of her ten minutes of clowning and wilful destruction? Don't see why I and other taxpayers should pay for her playday, nor why the environment should suffer the emissions and energy use of fabricating and delivering a new piece of quite chunky glass?

I think that's even funnier tbh. Worried about hitting her little fingy-wingies, no doubt. Wouldn't last 2 minutes in the back-to-nature world they seem to yearn for.

Why the F are they protesting about HS2? Isn’t public transport a good thing?

It’s good to see that plod has decreed the demonstrations to be illegal, one wonders why this wasn’t done a few weeks ago.

I must remember that. If you want to smash some toughened glass, use a toffee hammer and blunt posidrive screwdriver yielded with all the force of an angel kissing a puppy's nose.

Perhaps she's hoping for a consultancy position at that government department, to go along with all the others she has had over the years.
