The rioting did indeed change the plans, the climate conference is now to be held in Madrid, and the child is asking for help to find a transport to Spain... rolleyes
Wanting to get to the other side of the world for free & no multimillionaires making a yacht available?I've been there myself.

If only they could invent some sort of long range communication device that allows you to meet with people without having to be in the same room. You could have a conference and save on all the pollution the transportation and housing of the delegates produces.

Looking at the imagery of this there seems to be a deliberate strategy in terms colours of dye and clothing being used across the various "protests", I'd be curious to know what the fabric is I assume cotton? and how many usage cycles the XR activists are getting out of the clothing.

Cotton obviously being a very environmentally damaging material in terms of chemicals, pesticides and water used in production.

Equally the large XR banners that they so love to attach to things appear to be commercially produced so I'd assume printed on some form of scrim (aka cotton) or vinyl (aka plastic) and ink appears to waterproof or water resistant so curious how environmentally impactful that is in terms of plastics, VOCs or solvents...

Judges have ruled that the police had no power to ban their protests. The lawyers for the group said that the police now face claims for false imprisonment. Let’s hope police can use the fact that these protestors were blocking public roads and causing disruption to not payout for those claims. If the met police do end being hurt in the pocket then expect zero action against XR fools in the future.

That's potentially dangerous for protesters but good news in that it will lead to alienation of more voters including, as time goes by, many who were previously sympathetic.

Result!

Unfortunately Londoners will suffer, sympathy is due on that score.

I thought that was the reason for the arrests in the first place?

Will this not set a precedent for other groups considering disruptive protesting?

The right of someone to block a road now appears to trump the rights of someone to travel down it.

Was the legal challenge not based on the blanket nature of the ban in comparison to wording and judges' interpretation of the legislation's intent regarding single 'localised' actions?

Presumably individual location-specific Section 14 bans could be implemented if plod still see fit to go down that route.

However, with the tribulations of Londoners and (more seriously) delays to mercy dashes of all types notwithstanding, alienating more voters will be a good thing in the long game.

Is it not the case that those arrested prior to the Section 14 ban will have no claim, as their arrest related to alleged criminal behaviour, and only those arrested for breaching the ban will be in a position to claim false arrest?

The highest courts have no issue in showing their political bias.

It's this sort of thing that will do more harm than anything to the UK. One of the reasons we've been successful for investment etc... is that we play by the rules, you know where you stand. Start being political with the law and that changes.

What this and the officer being charged with the murder of Dalian Atkinson while in the line of duty, who'd be a copper these days. Thankfully some people do and I take my hats off to them!

More of a cock up by the police I would have thought. They had the powers but did not use them properly.

There hasn’t been much action down in Cornwall from them since it got a bit colder, the only thing I’ve seen recently was a badly drawn XR logo on Sennen beach.
However, some turned up to clean a bank laugh
