Any shortfall in our labour requirements would be supplemented by allowing immigration of suitably qualified individuals, of the right character, who agree to subscribe to our values, and pay their way in our society.
How would you assess that then? Cup of tea and biscuits with every person at an immigration centre and get a civil servant to ask them a load of hypothetical questions? Ask the government of the developing country who's skilled workforce we are poaching, to provide a load of background data that they may not even hold? And what if they leave their home, work their nuts off here for 18 months contributing and then they fall ill and lose the ability to work? Send them back like how they do in Dubai, to people who are settled with their kids in school? Without a global accord this is unworkable I'm afraid

Maybe I am looking at this a bit simplistically. When I was born the global population was 2.7 billion. It's now 7.7 billion and still rising. In a few years time it will have tripled - during my lifetime. I consider an increase of that magnitude to be worthy of mention, and sufficiently serious to consider addressing.
It's being addressed. Once a country becomes economically developed the birth rate drops dramatically. The population growth rate is levelling off. There is a far higher population than in the past certainly but there is also less poverty and far fewer famines.

There is no population crisis.

Population growth has been declining since 1962.

Another youngish mum on the JOB show this morning talking about boris and climate change, she apparently cries herself to sleep most nights thinking of the plight her children may suffer.

She was taught about climate change in the 80'srolleyes

I suspect that more former 3rd world countries joining the consumer rollercoaster are all playing their part in CC,not that they shouldn't have the lifestyle of course.

And i wonder how much needless junk will be bought this year for xmas?.

Campaigning to ban Christmas presents and all Premiership / Champions League football as well as leisure flights both long and short haul would be an excellent strategy in so many ways.

Absolutely. Probably only a small benefit though, but a great place to start. Every little helps.

My mate is a left wing XR member and is always banging on about equality & climate change and all that crap
Anyway his Mrs just won a competition and so they're going on a free trip to Abu Dhabi, a 8 hour flight to a repressive human rights hell hole, that uses outdoor air conditioning in shopping malls in the summer.

As it’s a “repressive human rights hell hole” presumably you won’t be voting Tory who are going to continue to trade with the “repressive human rights hell hole” and instead will be voting for Labour who wouldn’t?

And lets not forget that the Tory party are actively promoting their AGW credentials at home and abroad...so it would be the very height of hypocrisy to vote for them right?

Calm down you silly little man. I'm not preaching to anyone about anything. If I was part of an anti-arming of repressive sthole focus group stopping working people going to work on time but then voting Tory anyway then you might have a point. No hypocrisy in my position I'm afraid to say.

“Silly little man” laugh

Well, fool, you tried to insinuate that people with a particular viewpoint shouldn’t be doing certain things which is childs argument because if we all did that then nothing would function.

Hypocrisy is hypocrisy, your justification for yours is no more valid than somebody who believes in AGW getting on a plane. Having called Saudi out correctly you then think its OK to vote for a party that is supporting that regime. By any measure applied to the protestors its equally hypocritical, unless you actually support the continued existence of the “repressive human rights hell hole”.

We all shouldn’t be doing certain things, no?

And nothing would function, and that is exactly the kind of CO2 saving measure we so desperately need. It’s a climate emergency... do you understand what that means? Science has spoken.

Haha you're not the brightest are you!

A left wing climate protestor who stops people going to work as part of their protest, should not go on a free holiday to a country with poor human rights record and terrible environmental record it is an unecessary trip, there are plenty of other places to go that do not massively contradict the beliefs that he loudly and disruptively disseminates to all & sundry

I can call a country repressive as that is what it is. I am not preaching to stop people going there or supporting it, trying to change people's minds or organise action against it.

I expect you can't tell the difference though - maybe best off to bed little lad, and stop wasting your parents' wifi!

I'm in Colorado right now and XR have just shut down the main road to the mall (Black Friday is massive here) in Denver.... Cops are just looking on and doing nothing while they're sat on the road.

It's currently -7degrees so I wonder how long they'll hang around.

Actually, I think he's knocking on bit, sure he mentioned visiting a cardiologist. I'm sure he's a good patient popping his Statins because someone with a qualification told him to, without looking into things fo himself. No matter, he'll put a condescending smilie after every post, to convince himself he is right and everyone with a different viewpoint is wrong...

But you’ll vote for a party supporting that regime whilst slagging off those AGW supporters going by plane.

Thick as mince laugh
