So it was ok for Churchill to drink alcohol during the day because it was from a glass? Look, get on with your own life because this isnt worth you getting so excited about. Its a none story, lets just agree on that.
Nice try at avoiding the swearing thing by the way, very classy. ha ha
So she's an idiot? Yes, total non-story, we can all agree on that!Nice try at avoiding the swearing thing by the way, very classy. ha ha

I'm no fan of Diane Abbott, I think she's shown poor and disgraceful judgement on too many issues.
But, we want politicians to be "more human" and when one does something pretty human which is grabbing a drink on a train they're slated for it.
I'm not from London but I would assume the TFL laws aren't there to try and make trains alcohol free but rather to give an easy way to deal with pissed up party goers and people making other travellers lives miserable.
Do we really want her or anyone prosecuted for this?
I really can't work it out.
Correct. It's a stupid, infantilising law and should be ignored by anyone sensible (or Diane Abbot in this case). Would we have preferred it if she'd have expensed a taxi and done it there instead? But, we want politicians to be "more human" and when one does something pretty human which is grabbing a drink on a train they're slated for it.

History rarely is.
If she were to be in a position of power she has just provided suitable ammunition for her opponents.
No problem whilst in opposition. In government, a totally different ball game.

A: Who is it?B: Prove that he is pissed
'Tired and emotional' became a euphemism for him.
He did indeed become a Labour Foreign Secretary, who had already gained a reputation for liking his - rather too much!

It's Michael Howard the well known Labour home secretary who then switched sides to become a conservative leader
I wouldn’t bet the farm on it, but I’m 99.9% sure that that’s George Brown, who was Shadow Home Secretary in Hugh Gaitskell’s Opposition in the early sixties. He was Foreign Secretary in Harold Wilson’s government.
He was a well known pi$$ artist, but I WOULD bet the farm that he never crossed the house to become a Conservative.

Personally, as much as I feel that she may have exhibited past behaviours of a racist, hypocrite and is incompetent in her role etc, I find this type of reporting in MSM inflammatory across a number of possible spectrums and quite unsavoury.
Exactly what harm was she doing to anyone else? Divisive reporting and potentially quite intrusive and typical MSM trivia.
Attack her politics. Attack her capabilities. Yes she was breaking the law. But let the lady get on with her life and let the law enforce any transgressions she makes. This is another example of unnecessary trial by media IMHO.
We should let her go round and round on the circle line drinking 24x7. She will do a lot less damage than doing her normal job.
Agreed. I am not keen on her politics at all (though she is right on some things), but a lot of the attacks on her in the media border on racism and / or bullying, and I condemn them completely. Exactly what harm was she doing to anyone else? Divisive reporting and potentially quite intrusive and typical MSM trivia.

If a politician very publicly breaks the law it will be reported.
If she had been using her phone driving and then reporters would that be bullying or racism?
Like it or not she’s in a position of (some) importance and should act and respect the law accordingly.

Churchill visited the USA during prohibition. He had (as did many others) scotch prescribed by a tame doctor. Nice try at avoiding the swearing thing by the way, very classy. ha ha

There IS someone on this site who can spell "non", instead of "none".

Of course, but you've got people using "comparisons" such fare dodging or using a mobile whilst driving.History rarely is.

Personally I'd have no issue seeing anyone prosecuted for those.
But a can of Mojito?
If it were any other thread everyone would be saying it was "Snowflake leftist SJW's easily offended PC crowd gone mad" yet we're on page 10 without a shred of irony

She lives and works in London so she should know about the ban.

No matter if they’re high flying executives, politicians, or scaffolders, it makes me feel vaguely uncomfortable if they’re near me, and I’m glad when they either get off, or I reach my stop.
Are you for real? Are you scared to go to a pub? I’ve heard of pushing the envelope, but you’re taking it to extremes.
Anyone pulling the ring pull on a can of Fosters while on a subway train, should be viewed with at least a little caution, it’s not the same as sitting at a table on a train from Bristol to London, sipping lager while reading the paper.
Of course I’m not scared to go to a pub or bar, I go to enjoy a few vodkas, and in the knowledge that there will be like minded individuals in there too, it’s completely comfortable.
It’s like if I went to Indianapolis, to watch the 500 mile race, in Speedway, IN.
I’d expect to see race cars whizzing round at 195-200mph, great.
On the other hand, if I was trying to cross Fitzjohns Avenue, Hampstead, and the same cars were roaring down from Hampstead Heath, toward Swiss Cottage, I think that I’d feel distinctly discomfited.

No it wouldn’t. In breaking that law she would be putting herself an others in danger. Apples and oranges I am afraid. Try another analogy. If she had been using her phone driving and then reporters would that be bullying or racism?

I am not suggesting that she is above the law. I am suggesting that the Sun is playing to the gallery over next to nothing.
She was quietly sipping from a tin, could have been alcohol or a soft drink given the impact her behaviour had on other travellers. The sun report her “swigging and downing” etc, language not really trying to influence the thoughts of their hard of thinking readership at all is it?
What I am probably more surprised about in this episode is her holding her hands up to being wrong. I think that is a first, she could have just said that she “misdrunk” or something.

If she was white there wouldn't be 10 pages, on top of that what you guys are saying here just makes race hate casual and mainstream. Perhaps a conversation about race is what this country really needs
It's only 3 pagesDA is a racist but I'm happy to have a conversation about that I'm not sure she is
