I haven't been to London in 25 years but even I knew of that law, if the shadow home secretary can't be arsed to obey one of the easiest laws to obey then why should anyone else? Also, it has nothing to do with her race.

£500 says if it was Farage NPE would be saying how great it was he was showing up how stupid the law was; what's wrong with a quiet, discrete drink on the way home; not harming anyone; political correctness gone mad I tell you etc.
You would lose your £500.
Make that £1k
Oh fk it, I’m in. £1500.

Our son got thrown off a bus 2 miles from home for drinking a can of coke and he was only aged about 14 at the time...just saying.

Was it for drinking the can or for telling the bus driver to fk off when he was challenged? Just think what I'd have done when I was 14!

The point being is he was not allowed to drink coke on public transport let alone alcohol...........however it was agreed by him and the driver that he was spotted taking another drink after already being told not to ....................had it been me aged 14 on the other hand hehe

eta but we had the old buses that you could just jump on and off the back and swing around the pole at will.

People like making it about race, to defend her.

These are the same people who think she’s causing no harm... you know, she’s special so should be let off...

When really she’s shadow HS so should set an example. They’d be crowing if it was Boris hehe

And those knocking her would be defending him if it were the tousle headed liar Johnson.

Perhaps she has a drinky problem...might explain a lot...

I’d have been happy if she’d been hit with a £5000 fine and barred from TFL Public Transport for six months, but Mojito!!!, from a CAN yet?
She should have been tarred and feathered, then run out of town on a rail, the chav.

Diversion type post. Presumably to show how awfully racist we all are. This kind of slur posting is trotted out all the time and whilst in this case it's mild it's just as pathetic as other versions

Perhaps making it illegal to be pissed out of your brains on public transport would be a more sensible rule? Seems a bit pathetic to outright ban any alcohol consumption.
I absolutely agree with this.

I knew about it as I heard about it some time ago and was surprised. It's obviously a Train operators decision. It is different on other operators though

Now for the nitty gritty. I made the OP as it's relevant. If you have a senior politician breaking a law it's newsworthy. Simple as that. I didn't doubt for one minute that certain types would pop up and claim
"racist/ picking on her/ sexist etc etc etc "
And sure enough certain posters don't disappoint. So let's be nice and clear about this
If it was:
Boris Johnson
JRM
Mr Farage
Mr Cameron
Angela Raynor
Vince Cable
Ritchie Blackmore
Richard Attenborough
It would still be newsworthy. In the case of Ms Abbot it's a little bit more newsworthy because as the title says "Senior Politician" It is perfectly reasonable and acceptable to think that a "senior politician" would be aware of the ban and would comply
I won't speculate on other things regarding drinking by politicians or "senior politicians" but there are lots of comments if you look around that suggest some "high profile" politicians may well have issues with their drinking

The problem with this law is that it’s a stupid law because it’s completely unenforceable. I’d love to know how many people have been prosecuted for drinking on the bus. I’d hazard a guess at 0 because the police have better things to do.

These cocktails in a can are the middle class version of strong cider.

Only proper alcoholics consume them.

We will be on one of those in a couple of weeks as it's the designated mode of transport from a church to the wedding reception

Who knows but then again The thing with Charlie Kennedy was hidden to some degree
Marriages are another cracks me up all the happy married MP's all lovey dovey. It's a private matter of course but when they use it to project themselves as married stable types its a bit of a bks IMO
That was brought into light just slightly in the Notre Dame fire coverage.
But you needed to be aware of it to realise

Personally, as much as I feel that she may have exhibited past behaviours of a racist, hypocrite and is incompetent in her role etc, I find this type of reporting in MSM inflammatory across a number of possible spectrums and quite unsavoury.

Exactly what harm was she doing to anyone else? Divisive reporting and potentially quite intrusive and typical MSM trivia.

Attack her politics. Attack her capabilities. Yes she was breaking the law. But let the lady get on with her life and let the law enforce any transgressions she makes. This is another example of unnecessary trial by media IMHO.

We should let her go round and round on the circle line drinking 24x7. She will do a lot less damage than doing her normal job.
You don't see that perhaps there is a bit more of an issue with the shadow home secretary breaking the law?
I don’t disagree with you at all. But I do see the horrid rag playing to the gallery again. If Joe Public were spotted on a train sipping quietly from a tin, it would be unlikely to be reported as “swigging and “downing” a in the press. Yes she should be conscious of the law and set the right example in her position. So we agree on that fact.

As mentioned, if she falls foul of the law by proper policing in her job or life, then it is up to them to follow through. I do not believe it is the Sun’s job to blow it out of all proportion with their bias against admittedly a popular, self-induced figure of fun. The way it was done and the language used in the article was trial by media wildly overblowing the situation. I disagree with that type of press intrusion against anyone, whether I respect their victim or otherwise.

Personally I'm more concerned about being on a bus/train/plane with someone who's already had a skinful somewhere else and is now making a nuisance of themself.

shouldn't your question be Have you never had a drink after work on a TFL train then ?
Or Have you never been drunk before appearing on television
I think it's called striving for accuracy. I must say this being a coont on pistonheads and picking people up for their posts not reflecting what you want to hear yourself is all very new to me
and great fun I must do it more often
