People like making it about race, to defend her.
These are the same people who think she’s causing no harm... you know, she’s special so should be let off...
When really she’s shadow HS so should set an example. They’d be crowing if it was Boris
And those knocking her would be defending him if it were the tousle headed liar Johnson. These are the same people who think she’s causing no harm... you know, she’s special so should be let off...

Perhaps she has a drinky problem...might explain a lot...
I wouldn’t put it past her to use addiction as an excuse.
Remember, nothing is ever her fault.

Makes me think she may be drunk when she appears on TV
Or Have you never been drunk before appearing on television
I think it's called striving for accuracy. I must say this being a coont on pistonheads and picking people up for their posts not reflecting what you want to hear yourself is all very new to me
and great fun I must do it more often
I don't frequent London all that often, and I didn't know of this law. That being said, I still wouldn't consume alcohol on public transport as it's a chavvy and antisocial thing to do.
Just looked up the product online and it's 8% alcohol, so hardly neat vodka, but as a diabetic it's not a wise move on her part.
Much as I dislike the inevitable whataboutisms that infect these pages, had this been a senior tory politician then the calls for their resignation would commence and it wouldn't be allowed to pass in to obscurity. Had it been Farage, guarantee the headlines would be 'unfit to be MEP' or something, it remains to be seen if DA is subjected to the same over this, or whether it's lumped into the bigger file of 'daft st Diane Abbot says or does'.
Politicians need to be smart and savvy in instances like this. Were I a politician and caught speeding, I'd take the points and fine the same day, so when the inevitable news breaks I can say 'yep, and I paid the fine, got 3 points so what's your point?' and give the media nowhere to go and no sensational story to go on. DA should do the same, scribble a letter of apology to TfL and enclose a payment for the fine - then stand up and say something along the lines of 'I wasn't aware of the ban, ignorance is no excuse so I paid the fine'. Giving the media no ammunition.
BUT... on the macropolitical scale, the left are endeavoring to create societal division with a 'them and us' image. Getting caught drinking mojito in a can will do more damage to the 'them and us' mantra, those leading 'us' are 'them' in disguise.
This is unlikely to go away.

These cocktails in a can are the middle class version of strong cider.
Only proper alcoholics consume them.
I think that's more the point here, isn't it?Only proper alcoholics consume them.
So desperate for a drink she's willing to break the law (even if it is a bit of harsh law if you are doing no harm)
I can't imagine being the sort of person who can't even wait to get home before having a drink, or has to stop in the pub on the way home to get a drink, but to buy and take a can on a train and drink, or even just to have/need to drink alone on a train.
fking hell!
Just add it to the long list of issues surrounding her!

But my salient point is that you asked a poster who posted
"Makes me think she may be drunk when she appears on TV " The question "Have you never had a drink after work then?"
I stated that your question should have been "shouldn't your question be Have you never had a drink after work on a TFL train then ?
Or Have you never been drunk before appearing on television"
I did that as it addresses the post the poster you are replying to in the way your question should have been posed
Your question "Have you never had a drink after work then?" is off tangent and causes an unnecessary diversion. Of course people may enjoy a drink after work but that wasn't the point the poster was making.
You will have to excuse me as I need to clean the cage for when the parrot returns
happy easter

This wasn’t picking a cooling can out of her shopping bag on a hot tube at 7pm after a long day at work!!
I don’t think even Charles Kennedy was caught like this??

I think a major point in this has been missed.... one report says it was 1pm!! She was on a tfl train at 1pm ffs drinking a can of Mojito on her own???

£500 says if it was Farage NPE would be saying how great it was he was showing up how stupid the law was; what's wrong with a quiet, discrete drink on the way home; not harming anyone; political correctness gone mad I tell you etc.
I don't think drinks with mixers are allowed either. Edited by Johnnytheboy on Saturday 20th April 12:37

The point being is he was not allowed to drink coke on public transport let alone alcohol...........however it was agreed by him and the driver that he was spotted taking another drink after already being told not to ....................had it been me aged 14 on the other hand
eta but we had the old buses that you could just jump on and off the back and swing around the pole at will.
We will be on one of those in a couple of weeks as it's the designated mode of transport from a church to the wedding receptioneta but we had the old buses that you could just jump on and off the back and swing around the pole at will.

Personally, as much as I feel that she may have exhibited past behaviours of a racist, hypocrite and is incompetent in her role etc, I find this type of reporting in MSM inflammatory across a number of possible spectrums and quite unsavoury.
Exactly what harm was she doing to anyone else? Divisive reporting and potentially quite intrusive and typical MSM trivia.
Attack her politics. Attack her capabilities. Yes she was breaking the law. But let the lady get on with her life and let the law enforce any transgressions she makes. This is another example of unnecessary trial by media IMHO.
We should let her go round and round on the circle line drinking 24x7. She will do a lot less damage than doing her normal job.
Completely agree. Who gives a st?!Exactly what harm was she doing to anyone else? Divisive reporting and potentially quite intrusive and typical MSM trivia.

The extrapolation some are making about her being a raging alcoholic is mental IMO. Maybe she just wanted a mojito?! It's not like she was hammered on kestral super and pissing on the seats, is it?!
Slightly off topic but with all the people giving up pay to go and demonstrate in London
She should have walked to show solidarity with the protesters. It would have been one of the most glorious sites in history.
Diane walking through the crowds. The protestors stopping in their tracks mouths agap. Then the inevitable as they walk behind her. A tide of people moving as one

Imagine the fuss if Theresa May was seen drinking alone on a train at lunchtime. The extrapolation some are making about her being a raging alcoholic is mental IMO. Maybe she just wanted a mojito?! It's not like she was hammered on kestral super and pissing on the seats, is it?!
I'm no fan of Diane Abbott, I think she's shown poor and disgraceful judgement on too many issues.
But, we want politicians to be "more human" and when one does something pretty human which is grabbing a drink on a train they're slated for it.
I'm not from London but I would assume the TFL laws aren't there to try and make trains alcohol free but rather to give an easy way to deal with pissed up party goers and people making other travellers lives miserable.
Do we really want her or anyone prosecuted for this?
I really can't work it out.

its weird, far be it for me to criticise (taking a cheeky carry-on on the way to a gig has been de rigueur for 20 years for me) but it's peculiar behaviour from someone supposedly aspiring to be one of the most powerful people in the country. Is she really that thick, or what kind of motive is going on?But, we want politicians to be "more human" and when one does something pretty human which is grabbing a drink on a train they're slated for it.
