He could have made his point without ever mentioning gender, I suppose that is the point, either he has this problem with the law in principle or he has it in relation to gender. He doesn't make the point in principle, he makes it in regards to gender.

As for the rest of what he says, having listened to him share his ideas for many many hours on all kinds of subjects I do not find him to be particularly insightful. I hinted to it previously but what I find difficult about him is that he doesn't appear to be aware of the genesis of his ideas, or if he his he doesn't often reference people who his ideas owe a lot to.

When I hear him talk about allegory for example I genuinely think he thinks he is the first person to appreciate that stories are not just superficial and can convey great meaning and teach us all lessons.
Ha - well, I think that's a tad uncharitable, he's a lecturer first and foremost I guess and an enthusiastic one at that, so inevitably he will draw on his source. He articulates things well enough and joins dots in a relational way that makes sense to people that have never read nor would ever read Aion or Ecce Homo, nor would perhaps draw inference from the familiar such as the Garden of Eden story - if you already have the insight then perhaps seed on fallow ground, but it's surely a good thing that 'pop psychology' like Cox's 'pop science' has entered the culture in a more accessible way. We're pretty dumb as a group, so any redress is a good thing I think.

Perhaps another subject for another time, but I'd be interested to see who you see as his influence, except the obvious sources.

Cheers.

How would all the girls at this school feel that a guy in drag wins the best queen

You mean, prom queen voted for by the pupils of the school?

Why don't you ask the girls who voted for him?

The whole concept is probably way past its sell by date
When did prom queens first come to prominence

Man better at being a woman than actual women hehe

Snark aside, who really cares? I don't think anyone is genuinely going to be disappointed that they can't put 'prom queen' down on their CV. More to the point I hope he followed through on his obligation for a bit of bump and grind with the prom king.

I think it was the late 90s/early 00s that Proms started in the UK.

I remember mine. The after party was better.

FWIW - regardless of the Prom queen thing, it takes some courage to attend anything in drag. Good for him. I suspect the world would be a better place if we were all a little more bold in our self expression.

Why should dressing like a prom queen be something only women can do? Why shouldn't anyone who wants to wear a dress to a ball, look fabulous in it and win any sort of competition for said dress, be allowed to do so?

I don't think you could sound more repressed if you tried.

I think you need to get out of the mindset of dressing as a guy or a girl. It's a guy wearing a dress or a girl wearing a suit. Gendering clothes is dumb.

I have to say, odd though it may seem to an old fart like me, fair play to him if that's what he wants to do.

yes And fair play to the other pupils for voting for him. It's confusing a few of the oldies but a good sign of the direction the world is going.

I don't know - I've never been to a high school prom.

Prom king.

I am somewhat disappointed that he didn't win Prom Qween, I think they missed a trick there.

"We are not against anyone expressing their sexuality or being homosexual if that's what they want. We have no issue if Mr Moffat wants to put on a dress, or dance around like a ballet dancer, or put on a skirt, we have no issue. We have an issue with teaching that nonsense to our kids."

The people in this thread who support these fkwits need to have a long, hard look at themselves.
