Does anyone have any recommendations for video editing software that can import circuit diagrams data etc, I am a editing virgin and I don't want to pay through the noise for software.

Racerender. Free if your happy with a logo, not silly price for the upgrade versions.
Use it to overlay my videos with data logged from racechrono.

Maybe not specifically what you are looking for but programs like Harrys lap timer can do this for you. You can either use your phone's internal camera or if you have one of the compatible action cameras you can use that. Its pretty easy to use, here is one of my videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYZ4NHfeiHg
This was just shot with my Samsung s7 mounted to the windscreen. It automatically starts recording when you get on track, stops when you stop and then you can just export the video with the data overlay.

And Racechrono does a similar job.

I record my Racechrono video and data seperately and you can synch them up in the app very easily. However if you have a GoPro Hero3 or later you can stream straight to Racechrono, so you don't need to manually synch later.

Racechrono Pro is about £15 now I think, so not expensive. A 10Hz GPS dongle is also recommended if using your phone for the vastly superior refresh rate compared to the inbuilt phone device. About £50 I think?

So if I have my GoPro 5 black mounted then racechrono will use that for video and overlay the gps/speed etc over it?

So effectively there is no editing needed.

On Harry’s I believe you have to replace the video file with the go pro video file afterwards.

I've never actually tried Harrys with an external camera but in theory the GoPro 5 should be able to connect by WiFi then the app should be able to transfer the video and overlay the data.
Hopefully someone can confirm this as i have only assumes this is the case from reading the Harrys documentation. But if it does work as described then there is no editing at all, you choose which laps you want, select export and it does it all for you.
