There's also an unconfirmed report that Jerry George, who was providing evidence, has died after a fall.

How on earth did you manage to write that without putting quotation marks around "fall"?

I have lo love of Trump, but that sounds fair. They are contractors so why would they get paid if they decided not to go into work on that day?
The choice was to turn up, wait for him, get paid, or, don’t bother turning up, and don’t get paid.

Hardly fair.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. Shell are basically paying its staff to attend a Trump rally in order to stay on the Orange Turd’s good side. It happens in 3rd world countries all the time. Very soon we’ll have large Corporations paying staff to vote for Trump. No doubt people will complain about that as well.
The letter given to them has been published. "NO yelling, shouting, protesting or anything viewed as resistance will be tolerated at the event"

The petition to rename the stretch of 5th Ave in NY in front of Trump Tower has gone viral and almost reached its goal. If the street is renamed the new address for Trump Tower will be 725 Barack H. Obama Ave.

415000 signatures, only 10,000 more needed biggrin

I’m loving this!

Does reaching the milestone mean it happens? Or does it mean it gets officially proposed and then simply gets binned?

Thx

Glasgow renamed the South African embassy's address Nelson Mandela Place so there is a precedent. smile

yes It made me double check who'd posted.
I need to learn how to use those smiley things.

I'd have thought the photo was a bit of a giveaway though.
Desolate, unreserved apologies for being out of order on Friday, I was as you suspected absolutely hammered.

In my defence it was my birthday and the first day of my holiday. Went for a meal and it turns out that once in to your 40's whisky becomes quite a popular gift among friends, which ended up about as well as to be expected.

No excuse but that's life, so apologies to you and I will accept my parrot. paperbag

They will still get a full weeks hours/pay, just not accrue enough for Friday to be overtime.

I'm a contractor and if I don't turn up, I don't get paid.

It's not really a full comparison. The choice they had was

- Attend a Trump speech (even though you might think he's a complete turd) OR
- be worse of financially because you won't get overtime rates on Friday.

That seems a bit slimy and underhand if you ask me. A corporation the size of Shell shouldn't be trying to appease the President. It stinks of corruption.

Wow you are defending it? I get the initial if you don't work you don't get paid but this is waaaaaaaaaay more than that and not linked to the poor buggers work at all.

If you were told to turn up and support Corbin or Farage or someone you don't support. Told to be happy and clappy about it all or you can stay at home and don't receive the payment you get every week (they are contracted to have those extra OT hours) not because you can't do your job but because of a policital leader is coming and you are rent a crowd.

You happy with that? all laissez-faire about not turning up to stroke someone else's balls/ego and it being fair you get less money?

I haven't seen the latest on the Shell memo, but I did note that when I was watching the news yesterday that, although they didn't deny what they did, they strongly denied issiuing the memo. I do have some suspicions about it's validity: Why would a multibillion dollar company allow official memos to be typed up in Word using the dfault font with no form of template whatsoever?

Maybe the same reason a fake letter wouldn't be so obviously 'fake'? I don't know if it was just the 'to be signed' copy from the local site boss cut n paste from a protocol email. That would explain plausible deniability - but all guesswork I guess.

That can work both ways. I’ve no idea whether it’s genuine either, but surely you can see why, if it was, it could be typed as is.

The corollary is that if someone was going to fake it, why wouldn’t they have used the logo etc.
