Swamp news - pay to be an ambassador (no not Sondland this time)

A CBS News investigation has uncovered a possible pay-for-play scheme involving the Republican National Committee and President Donald Trump's nominee for ambassador to the Bahamas. Emails obtained by CBS News show the nominee, San Diego billionaire Doug Manchester, was asked by the RNC to donate half a million dollars as his confirmation in the Senate hung in the balance

A Trump supporter, Manchester donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration fund.

Come on now guys.... it has always been this way....

Way back in the '70s, Robert Thorn didn't get the Ambassador's job in London by chance you know!

Bit of a left field thought prompted by his medical but I wonder if he might see 'resignation on medical grounds' as a get out of jail free card should the impeachment/imprisonment thing suddenly start to look a bit too real?

My prediction.

If Trump is facing being found guilty he will be diagnosed with dementia. He will never be held to account.
His cowardice is the only thing that will trump his arrogance.
You underestimate his arrogance. It's the greatest arrogance you've ever seen, the best....
His team and family would want that, but Trump would never admit defeat. He would claim he is the healthiest man on the planet while in his death bed.

Swamp news

A newly released email shows President Donald Trump’s private golf resort near Miami was not among the original sites to be considered to host a major international summit next year.

Trump had claimed in August that his Trump National Doral had emerged as a top contender for the Group of Seven summit after Secret Service and other officials visited various locations. But an internal Secret Service email obtained and released Friday by the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington shows otherwise.

According to the July 12 email, agents were told to add Trump’s resort after they had arrived at a list of four finalists.

This letter from Nunes...

In a letter to Sen. Johnson, Reps. Jordan and Nunes "reluctantly write to request any firsthand information you have about President Trump’s actions toward Ukraine between April and September 2019."

Trump asks Japan to hike payments for U.S. troops to $8 billion: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-japan-usa/trump...

The conversion of America's military in to a mercenary force continues.
And at the same time stops military exercises that Japan complained about.

BANGKOK (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Sunday the United States and South Korea have indefinitely postponed a joint military exercise in an “act of goodwill” toward North Korea.

The move comes even as Japan’s defense minister, whose country feels threatened by repeated North Korean missile launches, told Esper “no one could be optimistic about” changing the North’s behavior.

Well that worked well. North Korea say they'd no longer want a meeting with trump "we will no longer gift the U.S. president with something he can brag about."

He is also teasing that he *might* strongly consider testifying.
He won't - but fast fwd to the election. He is going to have to stand there with his opponent and have all this raised ad nauseum, live on TV.
Dem will provide facts and quotes. What's Forest Trump got? Saying "witch hunt" over and over again?
Gonna be hilarious!

I won't be responding to any more of his inane posts. It's bad enough with an idiot in the White House without having to put up with them here too.

Trump Holds Surprise Meeting With Fed Chair Powell, Says 'Everything Discussed': https://www.thestreet.com/investing/stocks/trump-h...

Would love to be a fly on the wall for that one because you know Trump's going to bang on about lowering interest rates or try and push him in to doing some sort of stimulus before the election.

These are the most recent fed meeting notes I could find and while I don't expect anyone to wade through them it's worth a click to see the list of names involved, most of whom are there to feed analysis to the voting members: https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/fomc...

The sheer quantity of information that goes through a central bank is incredible and then you've got Trump, a man who seems to think that lowering the base rate will allow America to borrow more money despite the fact that the interest on t-bills is set on the open market and the base rate then follows the market. I do hope Mr Powell had plenty of crayons on him.

If anyone's interested this is a 15 min snippet of Powell in front of a house committee last week, mostly talking about income growth and national debt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=40&amp...

That's handy for trump Supreme Court block his tax returns

SCOTUS issues temporary stay in Trump v. Mazars, keeping the president's tax returns private for now. House Dems have till Nov. 21st to respond.

Chief Justice John Roberts is ordering an indefinite delay in the House of Representatives’ demand for President Donald Trump’s financial records to give the Supreme Court time to figure out how to handle the high-stakes dispute.

Roberts’ order Monday contains no hint about what the court ultimately will do.

Ignore this, he spent a year saying he would testify to Mueller, but didn't, instead lying even in his written answers apparently

The House Intelligence Committee has just released the depositions of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale and State Dept. official David Holmes.

David Hale: https://docs.house.gov/meetings/IG/IG00/CPRT-116-I...
David Holmes: https://intelligence.house.gov/uploadedfiles/holme...

They really don't read well for Sondland who went full in for trump.

Then also you've got Hale testifying that on March 28th and March 29th, Secretary Pompeo spoke with Rudy Giuliani about Ambassador Yovanovitch. After those calls, the State Department maintained its decision of not issuing a statement in support of her.

"[T]he implication was that this was a roundabout way the President was trying to get rid of the Ambassador through this smear campaign ... I found it very hard to understand why a President of the United States would do it that way."

That open phone call from trump to Sondland where trump was so loud Sondland held the phone away from his ear.
Q: Making a cell phone call from Ukraine, is there a risk of Russians listening?
HOLMES: I believe at least two of the three, if not all three of the mobile networks are owned by Russian companies ... We generally assume that mobile communications in Ukraine are being monitored.

In Hales testimony, Pompeo called Sean Hannity and told him to produce evidence of the stuff he was saying about Amb. Marie Yovanovitch
https://twitter.com/HayesBrown/status/119660042537...

Hannity seems to be involved in a lot of things with team trump. He should be called to testify?

Witness intimidation - Vindman is about to testify again

President Donald Trump's aides have explored moving some impeachment witnesses on loan to the White House from other agencies, such as Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, back to their home departments ahead of schedule, according to people familiar with the conversations.

As public hearings bring the officials' allegations to his television screen, Trump is asking anew how witnesses such as Vindman and Ambassador Bill Taylor came to work for him, people familiar with the matter said. He has suggested again they be dismissed, even as advisers warn him firing them could be viewed as retaliation.
