"The Constitution provides a remedy when the President commits such serious abuses of his office: impeachment and removal. The Senate must use that remedy now."

"Senators must accept and fulfill the responsibility placed on them by the Framers of our Constitution and the Oaths they have just taken to do impartial justice. They must conduct a fair trial — fair to the President and fair to the American people."

House Managers respond to Trump's filing: "Rather than honestly address the evidence against him, the President's latest filing makes the astounding claim that pressuring Ukraine to interfere in our election ... is the President's way of fighting corruption. It is not."

Andrew Peek, the senior director for European and Russian affairs at the National Security Council, has been placed on administrative leave pending a security-related investigation, people familiar with the situation tell Axios.

Driving the news: Peek had been expected to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland next week, where President Trump is expected to meet with a number of world leaders as the impeachment trial takes place back in the Senate.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/478952...

Peek replaced Tim Morrison who testified in the impeachment trial giving evidence that the U.S. Ambassador to the EU, Gordon Sondland, had told him there was a quid pro quo in which U.S. aid to Ukraine was conditioned on the country’s government opening an investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Tim Morrison had replaced Fiona Hill who also testified about trumps Ukraine crimes.

Peek is the 488th person to leave the Trump administration since the beginning

The large color photograph that greets visitors to a National Archives exhibit celebrating the centennial of women’s suffrage shows a massive crowd filling Pennsylvania Avenue NW for the Women’s March on Jan. 21, 2017, the day after President Trump’s inauguration.

The 49-by-69-inch photograph is a powerful display. Viewed from one perspective, it shows the 2017 march. Viewed from another angle, it shifts to show a 1913 black-and-white image of a women’s suffrage march also on Pennsylvania Avenue. The display links momentous demonstrations for women’s rights more than a century apart on the same stretch of pavement.

The Archives acknowledged in a statement this week that it made multiple alterations to the photo of the 2017 Women’s March

A placard that proclaims “God Hates Trump” has “Trump” blotted out so that it reads “God Hates.” A sign that reads “Trump & GOP — Hands Off Women” has the word Trump blurred out.

US National Archives now say they've made a mistake

We made a mistake.
As the National Archives of the United States, we are and have always been completely committed to preserving our archival holdings, without alteration.
We have removed the current display and will replace it as soon as possible with one that uses the unaltered image.
We apologize, and will immediately start a thorough review of our exhibit policies and procedures so that this does not happen again.

What also came out yesterday was new court filings showing that Rosenstein was supporting trump all along and that he was going out of his way to sabotage his own appointee Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the FBI.

Rosenstein confirmed it court filings it was him who leaked text messages from FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to the media in late 2017, whicg started trump on his conspiracy theories about Strzok and Page, and also about Mueller.
We know Rosenstein shut down the Mueller investigation early, leading to the rushed report, backed by Barr

Until Trump tweets angrily about it, removes their funding and closes them down, of course.

Donald Trump on Lev Parnas: "I don't know him at all, don't know what he's about, don't know where he comes from, know nothing about him. ... I don't believe I've ever spoken to him."

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/16/politics/donald...

Maybe if there wasn't photos of them together, video's, and trump hadn't told over 15,000 lies....

The main reason why Parnas turned was because trump disowned him, after working together for 30 years...

Parnas has letters, text messages, contemporaneous notes, travel documents and more to back up his recollections of what happened as Trump tried to muscle Ukraine into aiding his re-election campaign by announcing an investigation of Biden. Trump was obviously getting ready to pound Biden with Ukraine conspiracy allegations the same way he pounded Hillary Clinton about her emails in 2016. Hey, it worked once! Why not?

After testimony by 10 witnesses before the House Intelligence Committee last fall, new information has continued to roll in. We have recently learned that the order to withhold the $400 million in congressionally appropriated aid to Ukraine came the day after Trump’s “perfect” phone call with the Ukrainian president last July 25. More recently, a series of emails and other contacts at the top of the Trump administration questioning the legality of the sequestering of the funds has come to light. And now we’ve got Parnas and his trove of texts, notes, letters and other documents that back up his stories about working for Giuliani to get former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch fired, and all the machinations surrounding the shakedown of Ukraine’s president and other officials to get them to investigate Biden.

As I keep saying, the one think Trump is absolutely brilliant at is making sworn enemies out of his friends.

And the fundamental reason why this is so is because he finds it impossible to reciprocate the loyalty they have shown him.

Are they ever really friends?

Trump is heard boasting about increasing the defense budget by $2.5 trillion
If those sorts of numbers are true (in his head at least) you wonder if it's not so much defence he's thinking about as offence, maybe a new 21st century Nazism predicated on total global control and financial exploitation. You can easily see that kind of idea appealing to someone like him.

Good point. I think they sometimes think they are - but Trump does not really have friends - just people who might be useful to him for a while.

The Senate will be restricting reporting of the impeachment trial. Seems they don't want the public to hear everything.

Even C-Span will be limited

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff alleged that the NSA and CIA may be withholding documents on Ukraine from Congress due to pressure from the White House, even as the Senate prepares to move forward on the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Schiff was asked about a POLITICO report that intelligence agencies officials don’t want to testify in public during an upcoming hearing in the House Intelligence panel on global security threats, asking that the session be held in private instead. Trump slammed the intelligence chiefs one year ago for the assessment of Iran, calling them “extremely passive and naïve” on the issue.

Schiff confirmed that report, and then asserted that Ukraine-related information is being withheld from Capitol Hill. Schiff blamed the White House for the failure to turn over the information to lawmakers.

“And I'll say something even more concerning to me, and that is the intelligence community is beginning to withhold documents from Congress on the issue of Ukraine,” Schiff said. “The NSA, in particular, is withholding what are potentially relevant documents to our oversight responsibilities on Ukraine, but also withholding documents potentially relevant that the senators might want to see during the trial.”

Whoa...

Lev Parnas attorney Joseph Bondy has tweeted an email from Trump lawyer John Dowd to his fellow Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani, Victoria Toensing, Joseph DiGenova, Jane Raskin, and Kevin Downing. The email is dated 8th October 2019, the day before Parnas was arrested

Dowd is discussing the question of whether to have Lev and Igor Fruman testify before the House Intelligence Committee.

trump’s legal team was discussing Parnas who , like every other career touched by trump, just a pawn to be used and thrown away when they became a liability or coffee boy. It validates Parnas claim that trump arranged for his attorneys Dowd and Downing to become Lev’s attorneys, in an apparent effort to keep him quiet or locked up.

Seth Abramson makes the argument that every thing trumps being impeached for, he did exactly the same with China

https://twitter.com/SethAbramson/status/1219018392...
Everyone knows Trump did the same thing with China he's been impeached for as to Ukraine, right?

Summer: raises Biden's political prospects with Xi in trade negotiations. Fall: Publicly calls for Xi to probe Biden. Late fall: Trump aide Pillsbury says China gave him Biden intel.

And folks, wait until you see how Trump's private business interests (and Ivanka's) line up perfectly with actions taken by Trump in a trade war *he* initiated—apparently to gain leverage in his own bid for Chinese trademarks.

Trump sold out our farmers *for his own profit*.

Former White House counsel for Richard Nixon, John Dean, explained that the legal brief out of President Donald Trump’s White House was so bad that it had to have been dictated by Trump himself.

“I actually thought Trump might have dictated part of this brief like he did the letter that Cipollone sent to Congress that said that what they were doing was not proper,” Dean also said. “It’s of that vernacular. It’s not legally sophisticated. It actually plays to the base.”

Dem Hill staffers say Moscow Mitch’s refusal to provide the rules of the impeachment trial is making it difficult for House managers to prep. Meanwhile Mitch is floating rumors that House will have 24 hours and two days to make their case. Wow. CJ Robert’s shld kill that idea!

President Donald Trump's golf hobby has reportedly cost American taxpayers an estimated $115 million in travel and security expenses, according to reports. The amount is equivalent to nearly 287 years of presidential salary, which Trump frequently mentions he does not take.

Of that amount, hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars have gone into his own cash registers as the White House staff, Secret Service agents, and other administration officials generally stay and eat at his hotels and golf courses, according to the Huffington Post.
