45th President of the United States, Donald Trump (Vol. 7)

The second article of impeachment was for obstruction of Congress: covering up witnesses and documents from the American people.
This morning the President not only confessed to it, he bragged about it:
"Honestly, we have all the material. They don't have the material."
And yet he’ll still be found innocent. The US justice system and democratic institutions will never have an ounce of credibility ever again after this farce. He’s not just guilty, he’s proud of his crimes. This morning the President not only confessed to it, he bragged about it:

Taken from the website of the US Capitol:
"The iconic and majestic United States Capitol is the most widely recognized symbol of democratic government in the world. It is where the issues facing the nation are considered, debated, and written into law."
These words are starting to sound a bit hollow right now.

Why should they start giving a fk about rules?
As again provenAs Schiff hits 2-hour mark, more than a dozen GOP senators have left Senate chamber & are in cloakroom. All Dems, I believe, remain in the chamber. Sen. Bennet gestures w his hand as if to say, what's with that? Rules require senators to be at their desks for entirety of trial.
"For the duration of the trial, all senators must be in their seats on the floor."

The Trump War Room account offered a thread of responses to the Democrats' Ukraine evidence. Every tweet in the thread was wrong or misleading.

It's on BBC Parliament now for some reason. I've not been paying attention but I've had it on for the last half hour. It's just Adam Schiff droning on repeating the same thing over and over again, it bears no resemblance to any Court proceeding I've ever seen before.
Usually it's "This is the law, this is what this guy did and this is why that breaks the law." Here he's going on about Russian democracy and showing clips of Trump speeches, I don't know what it is, but it's bizarre.
He's basically having a paddy because the world doesn't agree with his politics. He's going to have a shock when this action leads to Trump winning again later this year I fear.

The Trump Ukraine scandal is simple and is doucumented with a huge volume of detail, which includes comments by trump and mulvaney, where they freely admit even boast of what they did.
Trump made the US government’s whole relationship with Ukraine contingent on Ukraine paying his re-election campaign with a favor, got caught out, and has been in a defensive mode ever since.
And it's only Ukraine he's being indicted for. Remember he tried the same with China (quid pro quo over tariffs) and Barr spent the summer trying the same with Italy, Australia and the U.K. That we know of.
The GOP under McConnell are in three monkeys mode, refusing to listen to any evidence, in a desperate bid to hold onto power.
Or in even simpler terms

I don't know if there's ever been anything like this in my lifetime. We are watching the GOP in a bank, wearing Reagan masks, holding bags of money, telling us no one is being robbed. It's jaw-dropping.
Conservative lawyer George Conway on GOP treatment of the impeachment trial: “What are they afraid of? …That's the thing that I find most disturbing about it, is they don't want to hear the evidence because they know the truth. They know he's guilty.”

From the OMB documents dropped late the night before last, there's some key revelations
trump political appointees were working on Ukraine aide hold before "perfect" 07/25 phone call.
Pentagon repeatedly pushed back, to no avail
The hold was dropped without any explanation, on same day OMB was preparing a further hold

Not worried at all...
President Trump on Wednesday shattered his previous record for most tweets in a day since taking office, tweeting more than 130 times while House Democrats made their opening arguments in his impeachment trial.
The president had tweeted 132 times as of 6:20 p.m., according to Factbase Feed, a data firm that tracks Trump's tweets, speeches and daily activities. That number tops his previous personal high of 123 tweets in a day.
Trump also set a personal record for retweets in a day as president with more than 110, according to Factbase.

Near the end of Wednesday’s impeachment trial, Chief Justice John Roberts announced that an agreement had been made to allow senators to read supplemental testimony from Vice President Mike Pence aide Jennifer Williams.
The document will remain classified, despite claims that there is no classified material in the document, only evidence that is damning to the president.
“In terms of this document potentially being improperly classified, which is something that has been raised in writing by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and raised on the floor of the Senate tonight by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA),” MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow noted. “Obviously, it was the vice president’s office that said it was classified, they are getting publicly criticized for that. If it has been improperly classified and it should be something that the public can see, who adjudicates that?”
“Well, it’s complicated. Ultimately a court does if it gets to that,” said former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO). “You can’t classify things just to keep them out of the public eye, there has to be a rational basis for the classification. And ultimately it would be a matter for the judges.”
The former lawmaker noted another dynamic.
A single Democratic senator could make the decision to read the document into the record or summarize it, on the Senate floor.
In theory, the senator would be protected from prosecution by the constitution’s speech and debate clause.
