Buying a number plate... from a used car dealer

Hi guys and girls,

Near my house there is a used car dealership with a black saloon, thinking it's a Mercedes from memory, not sure. It's irrelevant really - the point is that it has a 4 digit (LL NN) plate on it. The window price for the car is about 25 grand.

Do you reckon I would be able to buy just the number plate from them at all, if I offered to pay the DVLA fees etc? How would you approach it?

I've found the plate listed online for 34 grand. Saved me asking.

Plate being advertised for sale does not mean that it actually is for sale. I'd not be surprised if th eowner knows nowt about it.

Still, no way that plate will be included with the sale, but I'd still be asking. Not to buy the plate you understand,? just if I bought the car would the plate come with it.
