Looks like Sajid is going to cut stamp duty. Good idea.
With or without Brexit the market was overdue. It's cooling as is natural order. Stamp duty can't compensate for the crazy prices.

Got a link? All I’ve seen are reports that he’s contemplating making it the responsibility of the seller, not the purchaser.

That just means that the seller will put the price up to cover the cost.

The vendor needs X after the sale is complete, the purchaser can Afford X. How that is fudged makes no difference. Will make supporting specific groups like first time buyers more difficult.

It’ll help FTB by effectively allowing the stamp duty to be paid by the mortgage rather than needing to find the additional cash up front. Probably will push house prices up (more than the stamp duty) as people will be able to afford bigger mortgages as their deposit will be slightly larger...

Exactly. Great idea to say ‘I’m going to pay someone to buy my house!’

IMO The "worry" experienced by those lads is 100% due to the messing around over Brexit since the referendum. What every business wants is certainty. They can work with Leaving or Remaining. The actual difference wont be THAT big IMO. Not pestilence and plague. And not free cookies for everyone.

But they just need to know ASAP which it is!

TBH I'm at the point where I'm sick of hearing the whining from the Remoan side (not remainers) I just want something to happen. Leave (my preference) but if we Remain then we go exactly back to where we were prior to the referendum. And then the UK Government can set to work on "reforming" the un-reformable! At least that wont be on the TV every bleeding hour! laugh
If you think remaining would be the end of it, you are very much mistaken. UK politics would be unrecognisable post that.

It wouldn't, I agree.

But the BBC/Sky/Guradian et al Would stop mentioning it and their frankly pathetic doomsday scenarios about shortage of oxygen and clouds and Yorkshire Tea bags due to a "no deal Brexit" constantly.

I cant see those media outlets covering the irate Leave voters more than if there was bit of searing at the inevitable protests.

Given what they've uncovered so far I suspect the media would have a field day with Nigel's "high quality" candidates.

People wont care, you could put a rosette on a pig and they would vote for it, if all the political parties refuse to carry out the referendum result.

Look to history to see what happens when enough people in a country get pissed off with the ruling class, it's never pretty.

I'm sure the media would be busy, but I suspect democracy trumps offense.

I don't think you're about to see Parliament full of people like this any time soon.

https://scramnews.com/brexit-party-mp-candidate-ia...

One or two maybe, but more chance of splitting the vote and hope for a few seats of their own than Prime Minister Farage.

UKIP Mk II hopefully.

If things go to form the usuals will condemn the link as it's to the Mail, rather than read and comment on the actual content.

Essentially it discusses the issues raised in Christophe Guilluy's book Twilight of the Elites looking at the rise of the French Gilet Jaunes and makes comparison with the UK, especially the ever increasing division between London and the Metrolitan areas and the rest of the country.

Edited to change Haines to Jaunes
Thanks Android auto (in)correct.

The content of Twilight of the Elites and the parallels with us and France is interesting to read. Boris is throwing crumbs to the plebs with "Northern Powerhouse" and projects like these, more police to allegedly make things safer by increasing police numbers to where they were around 2010 (it's like when Sainsburys hike the price of a pack of Pretzels to £1.60, but announce a "price cut" to a pound when the item fails to shift... then after a few days, back to £1.60 rolleyes ) People can see through the BS. Boris Johnson got in as this was an internal Tory vote, he wouldn't have got so far if it was in the style of an election where the people could choose between him and Jeremy Hunt.

Having heard his ramblings as London Mayor, where it was a mixture of okay and awful stuff delivered for London, I wonder how long the bravado in this game of Chicken he is playing with the EU will last...

Even in London, there's a slow hiking of prices to push the riffraff out through "Gentrification", the people may change slightly, but there's still the underlying problems... hence people have had their fill of political parties in the UK. I even think the Royal Family is finished after the Queen goes, people tire of Harry and Meghan's excesses whilst telling us to care for the planet whilst making several trips in a private jet.

Though something tells me in September that political stuff will get very interesting if Boris Johnson loses the Confidence Vote and barricades himself in Downing Street rolleyes

Good article - I've often mentioned how students get assistance and everyone else doesn't & you can't let the gap between rich and poor get too big...we know why.

Good points, cheers.
