10 minutes and he's already all over the place.
I thought it was quite amusing and a breath of fresh air. If nothing else, he's a natural, spontaneous communicator and in that department a million times better that the Maybot.

Personally I'd have preferred Hunt as a more rounded and experienced politician.

BUT this is about more than that and arguably Boris is the only person who can bridge some of the gulfs in the Conservative party and in the nation.

At one point he was ridiculously popular in London (of all places) where logic would suggest that would be impossible - he was able to appeal strongly to non-core voters.

If he can somehow pull that off again in a far far more complex situation then he stands a chance. And we stand a chance of clearing the current political log jam and getting back to some sort of business as usual.

It is utterly delicious seeing Leavers get their feeble hopes up only to be dashed - repeatedly! laugh Nothing less than they deserve, of course. smile

Although, an actual No Deal Brexit would be exactly what they deserve so that for many, they suffer financially somewhat in the interim before the UK recovers to a position somewhat closer to that of it's pre-Referendum status albeit with nought net gain overall derived from the entire exercise - one that would be overturned by a more sensible Generation in the not so distant Future regardless.

Boris eh? biggrin Well, he'll be good for a laugh or two in the coming months before Parliament check-mates him. smile

Trump & Boris! Glad I don't live in either country - how very embarrassing for those Citizens who aren't idiots. biggrin

- this PM'ship is all about his ego and nothing more.
Widely held to be true, but I really don't care if he can plot us a path back to something that looks rather more, well, normal!
er, this change of PM is really pretty much only the same as a replacement of the Captain of the Titanic, moments AFTER they have just run into the fateful 'berg! The good ship UK is holed below the waterline, and nothing can change that imo......

Met him once, thought he was a complete . His wife was delightful (but he's since managed to fk that right up too).
I've met him twice. Once in his official capacity as my MP, and once socially.

As an MP he was absolutely brilliant. Regular surgeries, readily available, wrote a column for the local rag, always present at civil and charitable events. I went to him with a problem about my mother's social care, and he sorted it out. I believe he also raised the matter in Parliament too.

Socially he was quite different to his media persona. He is clearly intelligent and well informed, and seemed generally concerned about social issues.

I also met Heseltine twice. Handshake like a dead fish, and a personality to match.

I wish Boris well.

Can't stand the bugger - but I do think he's the only Tory who can nullify corbi and be happy to do a deal with the Brexit party.

The next GE (which may be very soon!) could be interesting
I don't like him either and don't really want him as our leader but in the short term, and with that one single issue, I think he may be useful.

That’s all he does. I’m not sure why he’s even interested, him being a South African immigrant to the EU.

You’d think he’d know better after the way the EU has messed up his adopted home country but I’m not sure he can work it out.

I hope he's useful in the long term also, because if Corbin gets in I too will want to move abroad ... and I can't afford to.

If Boris fails to deliver on 31st Oct, then his credibility is shot.

Cue vote of no confidence in the Government shortly afterwards, and a general election, with a labour/left coalition resulting.

The opposition have little to lose by sitting this one out and opposing any deals, whilst trying to rule out a no deal Brexit.

Though my response to Coolbanana (as a remainer) is that the issue of who will be laughing at who depends at what happens next.

Boris was elected by 92k v 46k tory party members. Von der Leyen was elected by the European Council made up of all the PM of every EU country, except the UK because we are leaving. The appointment was then confirmed by the EU Parliament made up of elected member for every part of the EU. I believe TBP dld not vote.

Guess who position has greater legitimacy.

rubbish; minor point; EU is totally undemocratic, as we are told by countless PB'ers on here.
