Might be a vote of no confidence before then. In fact, I'd be surprised if there wasn't. But we will know pretty quickly if he's going to be a disaster or not and certainly by 31 October. Of course, he might not even be PM by then! May has left such a dreadful position it is hard to see how anyone could navigate a sensible way out but ultimately I want the best for the UK so let's hope he somehow manages it.

I can't work out whether the people in this thread who are loving that some are upset about Boris winning are loving it because they think Boris is actually any good, or it's just that they like to laugh at people who are upset and in fact they don't care who is leading the country.

It's all very odd and 'school playground'.

Seems a bit like the Brexit vote where it didn't actually matter to some people what the meaning of the result was, as long as they 'won'.

It's shameful. On both sides of the pond, we now have proven repeat liars and serial cheats in the most powerful offices.

Hopefully it will force a general election, one party will stand with remain as their manifesto and the "leave/remain" vote can be finally put to bed.

Let the faux outrage and smear campaign begin.....
There has already been faux outrage from the greens/Caroline Lucas. Saying its undemocratic that only Tories got to vote and the usual 'not my Prime Minister' guff.

Tell me, how many British people got to vote for Von der Leyen…? Where was the outrage then?!
Boris was elected by 92k v 46k tory party members. Von der Leyen was elected by the European Council made up of all the PM of every EU country, except the UK because we are leaving. The appointment was then confirmed by the EU Parliament made up of elected member for every part of the EU. I believe TBP dld not vote.

Guess who position has greater legitimacy.
rubbish; minor point; EU is totally undemocratic, as we are told by countless PB'ers on here.
Agreed.

There’s no place for facts or an understanding of the mechanics of politics or economics on here you fool !!!

Don’t like the man but wish him luck - there’s a lot to sort out in this country. I’m hoping The Honourable Member for the 19th Century doesn’t get rewarded with one of the top jobs.

You're right of course. It was shining example of representative democracy. I did miss her entire election campaign, perhaps it was just me though.

Here’s a possible chain of events

Boris is keen to find a deal of some sort

Boris agrees a deal of some sort

Boris puts vote to the public again - rescind, no deal, Boris’ deal (which may we’ll just be TMs deal with a bit of tinsel) are the options

Boris accepts the result of the vote as a mandate and declares the people have spoken

Boris can not afford a GE - it would be catastrophic

I’m imagining you are fondly harking back to the golden days of fine upstanding and honest chaps like Clinton and Blair? Or Wilson and Heath? Perhaps Nixon?

Why single out Boris from the string of sts who have governed us? Strewth!

You missed Boris’ too unless you are a member of the Tory party.

If so it wasn’t just you, there are 60 million or so other Brits who had no say in who their PM is smile

The one that followed the established protocols?

Spoiler: that wasn't Von der Leyen biggrin

The nine-vote margin on the required absolute majority of MEPs of 374 looks narrow enough, although the 327 votes against her provides a more realistic measure of the cushion she has. She explained the defections from the Socialists and Democrats with an acknowledgment of the bitterness which she says she understands at leaders’ rejection of the parliament’s spitzenkandidat, or lead candidate, system.

That’s the process that was supposed to have seen EU leaders back the parliament nominee of the party achieving highest support in the European elections; both the parliament’s lead candidates, Manfred Weber and Frans Timmermans, had been sidelined in von der Leyen’s favour.

I think that BoJo the Clown will achieve what May did in double-quick time - NOTHING.

He won’t get a No Deal through Parliament and, knowing this, the EU will stick to their backstop guns. Why would they?

GE in early January? Corbyn’s promised referendum next June?

This is a very sorry mess!

That could send some people of the edge. Well, those remaining that haven't already gone from the Boris vote.
