Who would replace the Queen/King as Head of State? Public vote? remembering that the public voted for Boaty Mc Boatface over the RSS Sir Richard Attenborough. President Michael MacIntyre? President Harry Kane? President Basil Brush? Or just leave it to the professionals and let the politicians decide. President Tony Blair, President Theresa May?

And Australia, Canada, NZ? Big constitutional change there as well.
I like Boaty McBoatface. I thought it was quite rotten that the vote was subverted.
Also an actual HoS is not needed, there other options other than a straight swap. Even so, I suppose it depends whether you believe in universal suffrage and democracy or not.
I hope Bett goes on for a good long while! Afterwards, well...

And Prince Charles would be superior to any of those choices exactly how?

Firstly, If that's who the public want to represent them then so what? We have Prime Minister Boris Johnson after all

Secondly and more importantly - unlike the current Royals, we can vote out a sub-standard elected HoS.

Who said you get to vote for the President of the UK? The Germans don't get to vote for theirs. Or the Italians. The Russians do but that hasn't necessarily worked out that well.

We don’t need a separate head of state - the USA manages with a political leader, and the ceremonial position of head of state is taken by their constitution and their flag, not by a person.

All cited as justifications for a hugely expensive Royal Family, but none really affected if we decide not to bother with King William and Queen Kate take national ownership of the Crown Estates
There's no need to 'take ownership', they are already nationally owned, they never were private property. When the monarch decided to give up direct control to parliament and hand over what paid for it, they sneakily kept two duchies, because at the time the monarch still did have extensive power, power which was only truly gone when George five tried to meddle on parliamentary business in the last tweenies but one and was told he could not. From that point on, their power was pretty much invested in defending what they still had, viciously.
If the publicly owned houses were fully opened up the tourism would most likely increase.

President Basil Brush?
OK, I'm in.

You suggested it in your first post. Anyway, as has also been suggested, why bother with one at all?

I suggested it as one of two scenarios. I'm sure you remember that this became the central point of debate in the Australian referendum on becoming a Republic. There are alternatives such as an electoral college.

The UK could combine the political leader with HoS but that is an epic undertaking as the UK doesn't have a single constitution. The constitution is woven through a few hundred years of law.

Anyway, I'm not an expert on the constitution. My single point was that ditching the monarch as HoS would be a massive undertaking.

quite, I think that, lethargy and apathy will keep the status quo for a considerable time.

Sure, but the last bastion of nationhood, that embodies the country’s soul, over and above any politician, in the USA is their constitution and their flag. It is what they swear allegiance to.

In the UK we swear allegiance to the monarch. Time we stopped.
