Morgan is a rat, and if he didn’t know it makes him just as culpable. The buck stopped with him as Editor.
Exactly, if he did not know, then he should have known.

The simple question “ where do you keep getting these insightful tit-bits, that excite our readers so much?”

Kerching. You only need to read his autobiography to appreciate that he loved this stuff.
The judge stated there was only one case of probable phone hacking linked to The Mirror during Morgan's tenure as Editor.
IIRC a barrister (not Harry’s) on Radio 4 yesterday said that there are many other examples during Morgan’s time as editor that are still awaiting decision as the court only looked at a sample of the cases.

“I only did it once” - is a st defence. Especially when it probably means “I only got caught once so far”

No he didn’t. Looked like you were saying it’s ok he only did it once.

I think "phone hacking" is a bit of an overplay really. It's more like, the code for your front door was left at the default and nobody told you that it should be changed.
I'm particularly surprised the spooks didn't give the royals/politicians the heads up - unless of course they were using the same tactics.
I’ve honestly always thought this. Literally using the default pin to play voicemails.
Not condoning it but to me ‘hacking’ should be more sophisticated really using wires and gloves and things like in films and that
I never bother leaving messages for anyone anyway so wasn’t at risk here.

Yes but in reality they also use private detectives who doubtless misrepresent themselves to gain any and all manner of information. Look at that Bashir who faked up documents and bank statements etc to trick Diana. So the ‘hacking’ isn’t the whole story.

Why does it matter how hard it was to do the hack from the point of view of the person doing it? Are they less guilty?

The judgement is about hacking and other illegal information gathering.

Quite.

I wonder how many people on this thread who came home to find someone rummaging through their stuff would say "well I did use a pretty crap lock so perhaps I deserved it".
A better analogy is catching somebody in your kitchen with a tape recorder, who was listening to you chatting with your wife in the living room.

You then realise that it was them spreading rumours around the village about things you couldn't figure out how anybody knew about.

They say the back door was open so you should have expected people to come in and listen.

They’re like the jilted ex that is still posting crap about their partner on fB 10 years later despite having a new partner.

I think you've all been duped by a fake. Just been on the website. Plenty of Royal stories, nothing remotely like that
