Some might say that up to the point he joined the military he was a properly obnoxious spoilt st. Afterwards less so but hardly an angel and still took full advantage of his position, though doing some actual 'work' and charity stuff by that stage.

Seems to have since replaced that with endless self pity with how hard done by he was by his sober celibate monastic life inside The Firm.
If he had been Harry Smith and not Harry Wales/Windsor would he have got into the services as an officer?

No.

He would have probably been accepted as a squaddie, not as an officer.
That's a good point. Why, with all the access to the best education and tutoring that money can buy, are the Royals such academic underachievers? And yet manage to get good university placements with school grades that would get anyone else relegated to scraping for scraps at clearing time.
The Royals are academic under achievers because unlike non royals they’re not looking to lay the foundations for a solid career of some description. At best King or Queen, the spare then not much further down and you’re a minor Royal. What are you for, what’s your purpose? This was touched on in the Crown. Elizabeth is the queen. Margaret, Philip... what were they to do. Royals don’t get proper jobs, careers as we know them.

Royals don't get proper jobs, because they don't need proper jobs. It's all laid out for them.

They are academic under achievers because, generally speaking they are of average intelligence and they don't have to work too hard. How did Prince Charles get into Trinity College Cambridge with his exam grades? Because he is Prince Charles, that's how.

I think we agree, you just put it better than I did.

There was a story doing the rounds in the 80s when Prince Edward was at Cambridge. His protection officer decided to follow the same course as the prince and was doing rather well. Asked by the prince why, in the light of this performance, he had not gone to university in the first place, the PO allegedly replied “because I got the same grades as you, sir”.

Perhaps when they are older, they may be affected as you say.

But when younger, they will not be. I suspect if we look up Harrys grades at whichever leading Primary School he attended, the marks will still be poor.

Previews suggest the next interview will be exactly the sort of "LOOK AT US WE'RE VICTIMS" stuff you'd expect.

Some will be outraged, some sympathetic, most will go 'meh'.

Granny and Dad might be annoyed enough to kick him out properly.

What makes you think it's difficult to get into the forces as a officer?

If they're going to drag Diana and history repeating into this...

So she's going to be rude about him in an interview, dump him with the kids, then shag her way around European playboys while making sure to get plenty of press attention? As long as she remembers her seat belt she'll be fine.

Pretty sure Meg isn't a fragile sort anyway.

I don't have any feelings for them , let them get on with their lives but I do hope he doesn't adopt the American accent that I can detect in the Oprah clip shown and the interview on the top of the bus with James Corden .

William and Kate's kids and grandkids will be doing that too. Whereas Harry and Meghan's kids will have to make money for themselves. As much as the kids of any rich couple anyway.

The same as his mother .. why does he court the media and then complain about it.

Anyone else as cynical as I am who is wondering why Oprah was invited to the wedding despite not being friends of , or even knowing, M & H?

And then we have this interview.

Sounds like its all a bit co-incidental to me. Not.

Thought Oprah was one of M's 'showbiz' friends? might be wrong though!

She was a minor TV actress - all her 'showbiz' friends came along when she got involved with Royalty.

Oprah had probably never even heard of her.

It is actually quite difficult to not pick up accents. If you don't want an accent from somewhere new, then you will have to make a conscious effort to 'fight it off' all the time, which takes some doing.

My cousin has lived in the US for 20 years, and has the full 'Midwest' US accent. Years ago, I went over there for 2 months to stay with her, and even after 3 or 4 weeks found myself lapsing into the accent here and there, completely unintentionally. I have no doubt that if I was there for an extended period of time I would myself slip into some form of mid-atlantic or generic US accent.

Language experts have conducted a few studies on this issue, and have concluded that someone who quickly adopts the local accent is usually more proficient with languages in general, and it is considered a useful trait in humans that they can quickly adapt their language to suit their situation or surroundings.

We may consider it undesirable to end up sounding American, but it is quite hard to avoid for some people.
