It's fair to say that William is punching way above his natural weight...She’s got some class, that’s for sure.
It became apparent that they thought they knew us but on approaching realised we weren't who they thought we were, after an apology they said they thought my (now)wife was Kate Middleton! Quite who the fk they thought I was I'll never know.
As it happens she's a royalist my wife so they properly made her day.
Apparently they "put two and two together" due to our Labrador-no I have no idea how that makes a crowd of people think the future king's girlfriend should be taking a walk in Oban holding hands with a rough arsed northerner with a dog either. Strange place, good seafood though.

When you see how ‘regal’ she was on this occasion (and all occasions to be fair) and then remember she’s a ‘commoner’ and also that they actually broke up reportedly because of that fact, it’s quite astonishing.

If Wills dies, does Kate become head of state. Not saying I want Wills to die , but Kate as head of state for the next 30 years would be better for the country. Wills is a bit dull from what I have seen of him. She’s got some class, that’s for sure.

When King William V (or whatever he "styles" himself as) dies, then step up King George VII (or whatever he "styles" himself as).

I don’t think he's had any flack for attending.
I think he has, even if it was a little veiled. He has made his decision on how he wants to live his life, and who with.
I have more respect for somebody with the courage to do that, than of the hangers on. Some of whom have much bigger issues in their life, that as a nation we are supposed (encouraged?) to look up to.

No. The consort does not take the Crown...

But they have acted as regent before, until the heir comes of age, so it is theoretically possible I think. When King William V (or whatever he "styles" himself as) dies, then step up King George VII (or whatever he "styles" himself as).

However, whilst I concede the point, for Catherine to become Regent it would take Elizabeth, Charles and William to all die within the next decade.

But yes, maybe Harry, maybe Andrew. Or, maybe modern rules permit the female Consort to step up. There is the 'evil uncle' trope for a reason when it comes to Regencies...

I don't think there's any sort of precedent in the last couple of centuries to really give a clue...

It is not necessarily a modern thing. But yes, maybe Harry, maybe Andrew. Or, maybe modern rules permit the female Consort to step up. There is the 'evil uncle' trope for a reason when it comes to Regencies...
Many monarchies have had the consort as regent until the heir is of age. The earliest example in a unified England is 978.
That said I don't know what rules are in place for the British monarchy, so it could be someone else.

Georgie becomes 18 in 2031 so Sway is right that if Lizzie, Charlie and Billy croak before 2031then Katie might become Regent. There would of course be a 'Constitutional Crisis' and the fact she is most decidedly common would be the argument of any pretenders to the throne (Arry, Andrew et al) but for continuity of line then George is still numero uno and Katies demeanour and standing might/should/perhaps be enough for the secret powers that be to install her as Regent rather than have the pretenders argue the toss endlessly.

What about HRH The Princess Royal?
Doesn't she get a look in after Harry?
I believe, but am happy to be corrected, that the changes that have happened around lines of succession not ignoring females unless there's no possible other alternative weren't applied retrospectively. Doesn't she get a look in after Harry?
The rules for 'oldest child' instead of 'oldest male child' only changed when William and Catherine were working on extending the line...
I get the impression people like the Princess Royal would absolutely hate ruling. She's got some serious character that one, and seemingly a great sense of humour.
