So now it's being reported that the Queen was not asked if her nickname could be used, beggers belief of the audacity if that's the case.

‘Kin hell, take a day off some of you!

Permission must be granted now? I named my son after my dad. I didn’t ask permission beforehand (Oh, the audacity!). You know what? He was thrilled.

I don’t know how some people doff their caps when they must be on soooooo tight that they’ve reduced circulation to their brains.

Given the story that was rattling around first about how it was a nice gesture and had been talked through and whatever it would put a different spin on it of it turned out to be untrue.

Like so many of the stories with this pair where some statement of fact comes out, then we wait a bit and it turns out to be self serving bks.

The lies are what upset people.

Reading through stuff here you would imagine that 'Lilibet' was invented specifically for the Queen and is owned by her. Even a quick google shows that it is a name that has been in use well before her birth.

Although irrelevant as to why Meghan picked it.

"Sources" say they discussed the name selection.

"Sources" say they never asked permission.

Lots of anger being driven by "sources".

Get a grip man.

No one needs anyone else's permission to call their child a name. Although it now seems they did get permission, it wouldn't matter if they didn't. Most grandparents or great grandparents would not expect to be asked permission, and would be surprised and delighted to know a baby in the family was named after them. And although I haven't discussed the matter with Her Maj, I'd be amazed if that isn't the case here. Anyone who thinks the Queen would be annoyed about this is basically saying they think the Queen is a miserable old boot.

It's not just a 'name' though is it? It's not as if they've named their kid Elisabeth after her, they've chosen a very personal nickname. I think it would have been polite to ask if she minded.

How do some people know so much about what others might be thinking about such a personal issue?

Exactly. I don't think it's remotely impolite not to have asked (although it now appears they did). We don't know the Queen's views on it. We can only guess. And I'm guessing she's delighted. And if she isn't, that's says more about her than them.
