A piece in The Times today by Iain Martin referring to 2005 when Swinson, age 25, won the seat for East Dunbartonshire.

'Her broad smile and highly confident speaking style created the impression that Swinson considered herself to be absolutely fantastic. Here, I thought, is a politician who will end up annoying voters'.

How very true.
They seem to be pinning a lot of hope on JS. It's not just the Lib Dems it's Jo Swinson's Lib Dem travelling show!
It's not just the message that the other parties are no good and that the Lib Dems are great, it's that the two old grey men are old grey men and Jo is a bright young thing.

A few points:
Either the Lib Dems think that JS really is a magic bullet and are making a monumental overestimation of public opinion of and desire for her.

Or the public are really longing for her and I don't understand the power of such things.

Or the Lib Dems are pinning it all on her with the knowledge that if it fails she can be blamed, she can be gone quickly and they can re-invent themselves yet again.

Don't disagree with any of that but do you not think most of the other parties including the two largest, are projecting themselves as one/two person parties and have done for some while now ?

Option 3 I reckon. I don't know whose madcap idea it was in the LibDem Thinktank to come up with their Brexit policy of refuting Article 50 on Day One (in bold on the local LibDem leaflet, but she didn't even go for the People's Vote option (which I can understand but don't agree with) which is bordering insane.

Can a party where its leader has publicly stated they will ignore the result of a democratic vote when it does not go the way they wanted it to, still use the word democrat in its title?
Perhaps they should be re named the liberally undemocratic party.

Lib dems are going to setup a database of anyone flying using your passport number, then ramp up a tax on the flight by more each time you fly. A flight to usa could cost over £1k in tax.

So guys like me, who tend to fly six times a year for work, are now going to get hammered on tax if i fancy a holiday.

My employer and therefore customer will get hammered with a higher bill to cover this extra tax.

fk that.
Get a 2nd passport?

As someone who voted remain, but will be voting Conservative and believe we need to get on and leave, I don't see the problem with the Lib Dem policy on Article 50.

Let's face it, they've nailed their flag firmly to the mast and set out their goal - to cancel Brexit, without putting it to another vote. If by some miracle they won enough votes to get into power then that would surely be enough of a mandate to do so. The reality is that in order to get into power they'll need millions of leave supporters to either change their minds, or be apathetical enough to not care, to actually vote Lib Dem. The Lib Dems know that won't happen but are hoping it is enough to attract dissatisfied Tory/Labour voters and win them more seats, enough so for them to potentially become kingmakers again.

When you start from the premise that the referendum wasn't democratic, illegal, biased etc you can say whatever you want. None of this matters, the LibDems have got literally zero chance of power. Even propping up Labour. Not a hope in hell

But, surely, they'll lose their LibDem supporters who voted to Leave ?

How that bloke can look any of his constituents in the eye is beyond me! Mind you, he won't have to anymore ...

I see he has jumped ship to fight the Cities of London and Westminster seat for the Lib Dems, not good ol' Strett-um!

COWARD!

They wouldn't grant one to enable you to avoid tax.

If people were doing that they would soon link the database to cover that anyway.

Best idea is avoid giving the fkers the opportunity to screw us.
