Lib Dems were never going to win, their chances definitely went once they pledged to revoke article 50.

The remain alliance failing to agree about voting pacts was the final straw. Then swinson having a presidential campaign just made it all worse.

Boris’s spending plans all seem pretty centrist, hopefully he’s indeed the one nation Tory he says he is. I don’t think it’s too difficult for conservative centrists or remainers that voted libdem to get behind the conservatives again. Let’s face it, it’s a massive relief for most that corbyn didn’t win.

With swinson gone, that’s probably the end of the thread. hehe

Cheers everyone.

Whenever I heard John Swindon open her mouth, I could not help thinking that she would be better suited to cultivating pigs and turnips. Don't get me wrong, but had the absence of charisma a national leader needs on the world stage.

Final kick in the plums for her - even autocorrect has forgotten who she is.

I suspect she and her husband will have the boxes packed for Brussels already.

Heard her nonsense again on TV this morning about what the people want. They have just let that be heard Jo. Go and look in the mirror. That's not what they want. Now think harder about why, and how out of touch you are.

It was the repeated condescension and stupid facial and jazzy hand movements that put me off. Terrible dress sense and i'm afraid that's important. She dressed like a granny

Swinson was a lightweight and although I liked her policies broadly she was never going to win, so this isn't a surprise.

Whats interesting for me is the amount of tory remainers who must have still voted tory. Obviously Corbyn was never going to be close to getting those voters, but the fact that the Lib Dems didnt convert many of them says much. Especially as Tory economic policies are not very believable.

So many Labour Brexiters must have switched to Tory to "get Brexit Done" - otherwise known as "fk up our international trade position" wink

Bad outcome for the Lib Dem's and Swinson from my point of view, I voted their way but I can't say I'm all that sorry to see her lose her seat given her poor performance during the campaign.

Unfortunately the remain opposition to the Tories was weak and divided, as soon as Farage pulled out of standing in so many seats it was only going one way given that there was only one viable leave option. That looks to be curtains for the remain cause, at least for now since Johnson has his big majority.

The only consolation for me is to see Corbyn convincingly defeated, hopefully this means the end of so called Corbynism and Labour can get back to having a broader appeal to the centre ground. Plus with Swinson going I'm hoping to see a better Lib Dem leader installed.

Thought that line would flush out someone who like to use perjoratives - hence the wink

Not upset, I think leaving is stupid, that doesn't make me upset or even mildly irked, I think its a benefit in that if we have to do the stupid thing at least it has half a chance of being over quickly as the uncertainty isn't great.

The thing that pisses me off is that the Tories seem to have abandoned their usual sensible economic plans for unfundable, uncosted nonsense.

My company builds social housing - I probably needed Corbyn to win

Blame David Cameron and all those within the M25 who never understood the mood of the country.

Apparently Jo Swinson is considering standing for leader of the Labour party.

Experience as an MP - check
Delusions of becoming PM - check
Experience leading a failed political party to general election oblivion - check
Available for immediate start - check

What’s the mood of the country?

How can you possibly know why people (the country) voted the way they did. hehe

There’s so many different factors at play in this election.

You must have listened to the same R4 programme I did early this morning. The new narrative is that this GE had nothing at all to do with Brexit, and all to do with Corbyn, according to all at the Beeb. So funny..
