28 years old and only recently married.

So very sad and unnecessary.

Sky News police briefing stated he was in a crew of two.

And what laws aren’t they subject to ?
Anything to do with HMRC. You or I would be (quite rightly) inside for fraud and tax evasion.
Breaking and entering?

They frequently crack open gates and fences around here to park where they want. The only action ever taken appears to be providing toilets.
For sure. I think the best course of action is to cut off the money supply. They are parasites. As long as we keep feeding them, they will thrive. Full HMRC investigations, UWO’s, seizure of assets unable to be fully accounted for out of legitimately taxed income etc etc. In other words, procedures and laws which would apply to you and I. Put the spotlight on them, make them feel uncomfortable and under pressure, that they are being watched and their actions will have consequences.

Yup, at every single level. If you need work doing around your gaff, find a proper decent guy, with a proper address and proper business. I've seen "tree surgeons" working with 12 year olds up ladders with chainsaws and the like!
Don't spend your money with them, if they come calling, just say, sorry, I have no money, and they soon fk off.
And if people didn't buy the stuff they nick, they'd stop nicking it. Go to any big regular car boot and you will find at least one, but often more stall selling what is clearly nicked power tools and bicycles etc. Again, if people just walked on by and ignored them, (as started to happen at a big Car boot near me after they were shamed on facebook), they soon got the message and fked off.
This "lifestyle" is all about ignoring the laws and all about money, and there is fking stloads of money / cash involved in these "communities".
It's not about traditions, it's about money.

Victimisation of an [ ethnic ? ] minority, it won't happen.

However, deportation back to Ireland seems a .......oh no we can't, we are in the EU, freedom of movement of parasitic sub-criminal
minorities is enshrined in the EU charter.

damn and blast, if there was only a way we could leave the EU.....sigh.

And another idiot brexiteer who has never heard of the "Common Travel Area" between the UK and Republic of Ireland, which existed long before the EU and will still be there even if we leave the EU.

Not only that, why bring your political ignorance on to a thread about this poor PC? Whoever killed this poor man, traveller or not, I hope they get everything coming to them.

If they can't supply proof that they're financially self sufficient, then they can be sent back to another EU country. Other EU countries do it regularly, but for reasons best known to the incompetents in parliament, we never seem to do so.

Very sad, I live a few miles away from this and drive along the A4 quite a bit, been on my mind quite a bit today, never would've thought something like this would happen there. RIP

Smiler.

It's not a deterrent at all.

Iran and China execute an estimated 500 people per year and they are idyllic, crimeless paradises, right?

The Nordic nations who don't even lock people up for life and they are lawless hellholes, right.

The very best thing you can say about capital punishment is that it doesnt have an effect, however you need to admit that it's definitely not decreasing crime.

BTW, morality has everything to do with justice.
I think it would make the victims feel better.

ETA there’s a thought - if found guilty let the family have the final say.

This is absolutely awful, but fortunately, despite the increasing number of assaults on Police (one about every 20 minutes), it’s unlikely one will be killed as a Police Officer in the UK. That said, even one death is one too many.

I’ve been assaulted plenty of times as a Police officer. I can count on the fingers of one finger the amount of times I’ve actually got any of the compensation I’ve been awarded by the Courts. Our Chief Constable has recently started writing witness statements when officers are assaulted, so at least in my mob, we are getting a little more support internally, even if the Courts don’t seem to back it up. I’m not in WMP, but the statements are similar to this. Where our Chief knows the officer personally, he’ll include that in his statement too. He’s pretty good, I have to say.

https://west-midlands.police.uk/news/chief-constab...

I still don’t support the death penalty. There are too many chances to get it wrong, although perhaps fewer now than historically, with advances in forensic science, CCTV, etc, but again, once is once to many.

Responding to Dibble - I firmly believe there should be an instant minimum (and large) custodial sentence when anyone attacks any member of the police, ambulance, fire fraternity. It’s not acceptable to go into work and face these people, who I’m quite sure will often be repeat offenders.

On one of the news websites they were going on their honey moon next week.

I drive that road reasonably often (there is a Porsche Indy and autoitalia indy garages - in units) on that road.

How do you prove which of the 10 animals was driving the vehicle?
Finger prints?

The forensic aspects will help.

Fibres of the clothing they are wearing is another avenue to explore (being on the driver's seat).

If there's a collision and airbag deployment that's often an excellent way of gathering evidence as it eliminates the "I have driven the car before / earlier in the day".
