Yes, I too find it strange that some schools banned Bung The Barrel, taking into consideration that there were people being blown to bits often enough

These games you comment about would surely be great fun for adults to have a go at

I think that I may have swerved “Bung the Barrel”, it sounds a tad homoerotic, but I think that I may have joined in with a girls team if they wanted to play, sounds more up my street.

Looking back through history, it seems that many European countries did quite a bit of going around the world, and grabbing other countries for themselves, (it could be said that the UK was one of the better ones at doing that) but the point is, that that is what most, if not all European countries did, or wanted to do back then.
The problem for the UK in 1939 was that we were faced with yet more European dictators bent on, if not world domination, then area domination.
Bonaparte was intent on the domination of France over Europe, Hitler was intent on domination of Germany over Europe, Mussolini wanted a new Roman Empire.
The UK, by dint of being the one European country, (which by means of its geographic location, a powerful Navy, and an outstanding Air Force, and with the part of its army that was able to get back to the UK) stopped itself from being overrun in 1939-40, and which made everything else that followed possible, with final the victory of the Allies over Nazi Germany.
Any freedom Europe enjoys now, was born in the UK`s stand against Nazi Germany in 1939 -40.

10-11 January marks 80 years since Portsmouth suffered its biggest air raid of WW2. 172 died in that night alone.

Anyone interested in a week by week account of the war may like the WW2 channel on Youtube.

They have been at it a while and have now reached 9 January 1942
