Seems to be a lot of anti-Boris posts on here today.
It's like product reviews where you only hear from the minority of people who like to moan about everything,
but the majority of the country that are happy don't feel the need to tell everyone.
I don't really have anything to moan about with regards to public services,
apart from the poor state of some local roads, but work is in progress on fixing those.
After taking one of my cars for a service this morning I walked back home in the cold and rain,
and placed my vote.
I think due to the poor weather the turnout will be lower than average for a General election.

I asked my local one about the turnout. They said it had been good.

One word. Democracy. Either you support it or are willing to sacrifice the entire democratic edifice for the sake of the economy. All these economic arguments were made back in 2016 (with a helpful leaflet posted thorugh every door in the land) and yet the majority of the voting population voted to leave. If economic reasons were not enough to sway the vote last time why should they be considered paramount? It can be shown historically and with reference to the current manifesto that voting for Labour is bad for the economy should we never accept a Labour government?
Read my fourth paragraph again. Another referendum is not democratic???Based on three years of trying to enact Brexit and failing we ask the country again. The last referendum had such a slim majority. A new referendum will either confirm the Brexit has a mandate or it will not. Simple.
As for the economy have you looked at the national debt levels since the torys have been in power? I do think a strong government needs a strong opposition. Unfortunately we have neither which is why this election is the most emotive election that I can recall. We currently have a choice between dumb and dumber which is a poor position to be in.
I’m not voting til later on so still time to change my mind but I’m 99% sure I’m going to vote tactically as there is an independent who is doing very well in my area and despite his claims there’s a lot of evidence he’s just no deal Brexit islamaphobic loon, which unfortunately will get him a lot of support round here.

Cast my vote this morning. Torrential rain here, deserted polling station at 8:20 (I was literally the only voter present). I have voted Conversative in the past, but I did find it tough, as I think Boris Johnson has come across as an arrogant buffoon, and I don't particularly agree with his style of Brexit. Even walking in the door, I still hadn't really made my mind up for sure. In the end I voted for the candidate I believe works hardest for the local area.
Just cast my vote. I'm in a marginal seat and although the sitting (Conservative) MP is nothing special, I voted for him again. In this particular election I don't see the point in voting for the candidate who might represent the local area best if the result of that is the whole of the UK going to the dogs with Corbyn in No.10 propped up by the SNP. I don't think Boris has had a great campaign, but I think he'll make a better PM longer term as long as he has a workable majority in Parliament.Halb said:

-13 Is terrible for an incoming PM. Don't think that's ever happened before. The country don't like him.
I think I heard on the news that this is the lowest number for a PM and the lowest number for a PM in waiting. Both setting records.breamster said:

...also...a poor government will only be able to mess things up for a short fixed term. A poor Brexit will last for decades.Based on three years of trying to enact Brexit and failing we ask the country again. The last referendum had such a slim majority. I really dont like our local SNP candidate. Hes a two faced... anyway he lives a street up from me and if I drive by in the bmw hes in the garden waving away. Drive by in the shoddy work van he cant turn away quick enough. Prick.
So my local votes run in 21% for snp and 21% labour.. not many votes between then. Really dont want Corbyn in, but really detest snp and voting elsewhere is useless here. Infact one seat was won last time near by, via exactly 1 vote. Mental. So might just drop my pencil and the closet mark gets it.

Some good posts since 7am! Some daft ones too ...
I'll vote because this is a marginal. I've voted in every one since 1983.
To anyone spoiling their ballot paper, it's not really a protest. All you get is some student muttering 'wker' under their breath at 3am ...
If you can't bring yourself to stick an X in a box, stay at home.
A 30 majority I reckon for Boris.
Corbyn and McDonnell anywhere near Downing Street will make Brexit look like a walk in the park.

We are not talking about a poor Govt though .. we are talking about a hard left radical Marxist one I’m sure that there were people in Venezuela saying similar and now they are eating their pets to survive

No I asked my local one about the turnout. They said it had been good.
I forgot to say that I do think this election is a waste of time, as it will not resolve the main issue which was Brexit.
Hopefully we will have a majority Government. A coalition will be bad news for this country.

I have tried to fathom what is different about Boris’s deal over May’s and I’m genuinely intrigued why people think he’s played a blinder. He has agreed a customs check in the Irish Sea, a line May wouldn’t cross, otherwise there’s nothing of note that differentiates the two. Happy to be put right, but I can’t see why he has struck a better deal for the UK, from an Irish perspective surely it’s worse?uk66fastback said:

Staying at home makes you look like you don't give a st.
Actually turning up and doing something shows you do have thoughts on the subject.

According to pictures in the press there's massive queues at some polling stations which is pretty much unheard of
Cast my vote at 7.15 on the way to work. I was 6th in the queue. I was surprised to be honest, I’ve always voted in the evening before so assumed I’d be the only one at this time.Constituency is Sheffield Hallam - so a definite swing/marginal seat and top target for Lib Dem’s. I’ve done my bit (despite the best efforts of Jo Swinson to dissuade me!!).

Touchpaper lit. I will be interested to read constructive counter arguments or will it just be insults?
Why would you expect constructive replies to your attempted re-opening of the referendum result debate, some 1260+ days (and tens of thousands of posts on the topic) after the fact?[quote=breamster Lots of sensible stuff about why we should remain.

No insults from me, Breamster, not least because I agree with much of your post. I voted remain. But you miss the key point - the majority voted to leave. Therefore, leave we must; it's as simple as that. Democracy overrules any objections.
I keep hearing that "people didn't vote to be poorer". You know, maybe they did. Perhaps they said "I do not want to be part of the EU project, even if it leaves us worse off - I don't care.........I just want out!"
And what sort of democracy is it that says "we respect your verdict, but we don't really, because economics......."
It's time to stop re-running the Referendum. The people decided, it's time to deliver (and I know that sounds like Boris, sorry!).
