Why do people keep misunderstanding what the actual issue is and that it is not the natural cycle so much as the accelerated effect caused by humans?
Climate models say humans are accelerating climate change, the data don't agree. Media unwillingness to differentiate clearly leads to confusion.

These recent papers set out the position regarding models vs data.

McKitrick and Christy in Earth & Space Science (2018) show that the difference between actual data and agw climate model outputs is significant such that the agw null hypothesis must be rejected "the major hypothesis in contemporary climate models...is incorrect".This conclusion is arrived at using data analysis, not opinion as per IPCC.

Varotsos and Efstathiou in the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics (2019) "it is not possible to reliably support the view of the presence of global warming in the sense of an enhanced greenhouse effect due to human activities"

The quotes from authors of these papers which are available online directly contradict the assertion made in the above post. There's more, but this is a Greta thread.

OK but that shows carbon dioxide level, not energy balance or temperature.

The former is a chemical composition change, the latter is / are climate change.

Only an assumption links the two - see previous post with two peer-reviewed papers and the conclusions in each. That assumption has been the subject of much propaganda so some who fell for it will make the leap without looking

I had expected to see the Al Gore quackumentary graphs with almost overlapping cycles in both carbon dioxide and temperature, which are low resolution and don't show that according to several research papers (Monnin et al, Petit et al, Fischer et al and more besides) when the data and its error bars are examined - and the one is inseparable from the other - the temperature change occurs before the carbon dioxide shifts.

Unless we have the equivalent of a window breaking causing a stone to be thrown at it, this is the wrong order of events regarding the required causality.

On-topic, there's a new Greta Effect.

There was a menu:-

It would be foolish to ignore the climate change issue, it affects everyone, but most people would be more convinced by arguments from eminent scientists than the rantings of a sixteen year old girl. (imo)

That'll end badly for a lot of Greta followers. If anyone thinks signing on for a transatlantic voyage, hitchhiking or not, without some (a lot?) sailing experience offshore, they're in for a shock. The boat she travelled across the Atlantic on in quick time is not the reality for most, I would suggest.

The more angry the colours, the stronger the wind. That picture shows it's blowing somewhat. The sea is going to be very bumpy.

It means that the weather is attempting to do us all a favour and put an end to her incessant whining.

Live map here

The red has moved round and they're right in it now.

She may well be realising now why most trans-atlantic travel is by plane in a few hours these days rather than 7-15 days being tossed about in a boat.

What a bunch of vile individuals you are.

The wind is 23 knots which is by no means difficult to sail. Over 35 starts to get fun. They are on a reach so not even banging into the wind.

Spot on, absolutely nailed it.
Agreed.
Outstanding. Rational and accurate.

All of the above.
I agree ... very well put.
All very well that you enjoy the back slapping on PH.

Out there in the real world, you guys are seen as the outdated and marginal opinions.
How will you correct that?

I hope you're not including me in that – I only asked what the map meant.

And catamarans are really well behaved in a sea, in fact any swell. reaching in a cat in a swell, yes good idea, as for amount of sail up, main and Genoa, not a good idea, weather helm, no idea.

All in all, not the best choice for autumn in the North Atlantic.

No I wasn’t just the unpleasant posters that would seem to prefer the crew suffer a major mishap.
