Perhaps you have not had the opportunity to meet highly dedicated, slightly obsessive young people. No parental encouragement required, more the parents are trying to keep up with their child.

My step-son is both chronically dyslexic and mildly on the autistic spectrum. He is amazingly intelligent and problem solving skills pretty phenomenal. He is not a natural communicator however so I can see similarities with Greta.

I find the constant knocking of Greta to be uninformed at best.
Trump without mentioning her name nailed it today ...
Well I can quite see how a certain type may identify. with Trump. I was in the states visiting my Daughter and family recently.

Even the republicans in the family are totally embarrassed by Trump.

Plenty of truck owning, base cap wearing blue collar types in a couple of the bars we visited love him. Couldn’t see too many rocket scientists amongst them.

My son in law takes the piss out of them in the bar and they don’t even realise it.

Irrespective of views on Thunberg’s opinions, she presented with more style, engagement and vocal range than Trump today.

His presentation style was of a bored, Mogadon loaded, geriatric.

She was fresh, enthused and engaging.

That is even before we get to the science bit.

Delighted Trump is saving his voters money, anyone mention climate change.... what a grubby bit of electioneering.
He may be an exemplar of political victory, but he is a styleless oaf. Ah well... 4 more years coming up.

You really should calm down a bit and stop frothing.
Perhaps you could do a proper English analysis and evidence the frothing and heightened level of anxiety.

I am however sniggering at your attempt at a repost.

Continued frothing isn't doing your health any good.

Is she? Surely almost all 16/17 year olds are able to read out a speech prepared for them aren't they?

I see no particular intelligence over and above any other kids of the same age, just an ability to say "How dare you" in a menacing way that makes good footage.
Oh right, you know many teenagers who would address a room filled with some of the most powerful people in the world, with millions of eyesaround the planet on them and coherently in a foreign language ?

I’m guessing you couldn’t do that yourself today never mind when you were 17.

We don’t have to like her perspective to recognise that this kid is bright and determined.

Seems Greta has not drifted away, so you can keep posting your pointless jibes.

Quite a self assured young lady.

She is on the world stage and you rant on PH.
Far from assured from the looks of it.

She is clearly not a well person
Your perception is completely different to my view. I suppose some want to see fault and weakness.

She came across well to me.

I though she would really suffer on the West East transatlantic crossing. The wether was not good. It’s not easy even for hardened sailors.

Nikki Henderson wrote honestly and openly about Greta and her view directly contradicts most of the uninformed and prejudiced posts here.
Really? She either needs hormonal treatment or counselling for whatever - anorexia/psychological trauma of some kind to me.

I am happy to be called uninformed but prejudice - no
I thought you were into property, therefore assume you have no expertise in the field of counselling or medical treatment.

She is not anorexic and you have no evidence to the contrary or any other of the ills you consider she is suffering from.

I call that ignorance and prejudice. If you weren’t prejudiced you would not be posting negatively without any basis

D pronounce
noun
noun: prejudice; plural noun: prejudices
1.
preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.
You assume very wrong, as ever.

Do you really believe she is a healthy well balanced 16/17 year old?

There was no plural you idiot biggrin
You cannot even read a definition from a dictionary deliberately unaltered. Perhaps if you educate yourself and read one it may help with your limited comprehension.

You could amaze us all with your medical qualification but of course if you did you would be subject to a disciplinary, would you not.

I think she is little different than my step-son at 17 or a few other young people I know. Try broadening your social circle.

And that in a nutshell is why all of these middle aged frothers are so upset with her. She’s achieved more in 17 years than they would in 3 lifetimes. wink
Could you please show what she's actually achieved other than whingeing & blagging free boat trips?

Her achievements are on a par with Corbyn (this is not praise).
She’s pissed you off.
Actually I feel sorry for her- she's a victim, manipulated & abused.

I'll rephrase my question- what have her puppetmasters actually achieved?

She's highlighted AGW around the globe and helped motivate a whole generation into activism in cities the world over. She's met and conversed with the world's leaders and given many of us a laugh at Trump's expense.

Even if she disappeared off the face of the globe tomorrow she will have written her name indelibly in the history books and will be a hero to her generation.

All whilst being autistic.

Whilst you have whinned on a car forum.

And yes, the same applies to me but I'm not tearing my hair out every time she says something and jumping into this thread to vent my spleen.

Even 72 pages talking about her on her own thread is more than anyone here is ever going to achieve biggrin

She has achieved nothing, she said so herself.
Do you believe she is managed ? Or do you think she appears at all these events by her own endeavors? Sadly she is a pawn in a bigger game.

I agree, I think it is very sad indeed that the people on this thread (Assuming some demographics here about being white, middle aged, conservative, motoring enthusiasts) find the time in their lives to pull apart a child who happens to be very driven and passionate about a particular cause.

I wonder how many of the keyboard warriors would say the same to her face? You know... when you remember that she is just a child with an opinion.

Her autism I believe has been her strength to get her to this point and to be a global figure for change.

Regardless of your view on climate change, she should be celebrated for her achievement in getting her message on a global stage at such a young age.

I also don't understand who these 'people' are that keep coming up as being her puppet masters. She is a 'pawn in a bigger game'?? Get a grip.
So you think she has arranged all these events herself? If not she is being manipulated, you think she was just chatting and thought you know what I think I would like to speak at Davos and it just happens, really?

He is well able to look after himself, both physically and mentally.

I never play serious cards with him. Was a professional poker player for fun but started his software company at the age of 17. It’s still going strong.

World wide feelings of impending doom by lots of impressionable young girls, their soppy Mums and a few socially confused young "men" , a fear of social media by the leaders of our world (it will be its death in its present form) and the politicisation of the scientific community to a level not seen since the church's last stand in Victorian times.

You really don’t get it.

Some kids are bright and driven. It’s a great pity if you’ve never met one.

They are their own puppet masters and the parents largely tag along and give support.

I see it even now this time of year young teenagers out sailing. Completely self motivated. The looks on their faces says it all. Can get a bit fractious if they capsize and we come too close in the safety rib. ‘We are fine’ with a few fks thrown in for good measure.

Bit like my daughter and her swimming club 30 years ago. Insisted on 4 times a week. My Granddaughter now with her Gymnastics band imminent State championships.

It called having a passion.

Apparently Greta has Aspergers the depth of which we do not know. That does not imply limited intelligence.

Your opinion is pure prejudice.

Errr yes, are you aware of X-factor and other TV series that feature young people of around this age performing in front of millions?

Or who will happily do a reading in their school assembly or church or whatever.

She's honestly not that rare in having public reading skills.

Still waiting for an example of why she's so clever?

Terrible, I didn't grow up being taught it by my TV and cinema, what's that got to do with anything?
