This has just been in the news again, dashcam catches another driver near the base driving on wrong side although it is a very narrow country lane and the bmw could of just come round the bend a bit too fast. If the driver was driving on the wrong side then the base seriously need to have a word with their staff.
Really hope one day the woman is brought back to the UK and face the consequences.
Which side of the road do they use on the base?Really hope one day the woman is brought back to the UK and face the consequences.

You only have to scroll back as far as page 39 for the latest confirmation - though it has been covered many times......

Choosing which side of the road to drive on is not even remotely close to "hard wiring". It's a learned skill. I have driven extensively in the US, Canada, and Europe, and have only once in thirty years briefly headed to the wrong side of the road when turning at a junction. I quickly corrected my error. Sacoolas had been in the UK for a while. She drove some way along the road on the wrong side. She was mega careless.
Yes, this. But CPS would still accept a plea to careless.

I lived near Lakenheath and Mildenhall for many years, they are huge bases with many times more Americans on them yet cases of driving on the wrong side were very rare.
Interesting places. All prices on camp were in US dollars, you had to change uk currency to dollars to buy anything. They had all american fast food places and the PX was filled with american food, flown over from the states twice a week in a C5 for the families to shop in...They had a fantastic Skeet range, 100 acres of rough shooting, great bowling alley...

I have for the last 19 months been living in a place where pretty much all the food is imported from the US. The food is appalling - dreadful quality, sweetened, denatured, utter rubbish. High fructose corn syrup in almost everything. I will be back in the UK soon, but sadly a lot of UK food may end up being US food, because reasons. Yuk.
I like the US, but only the civilised bits at the edges, where you can get OK food at a price. Mass market US produce is dire.
I like coastal Americans also - the best people ever, but where I live we see low rent tourists from the interior - who are the most oafish, ill educated, and crass people imaginable. Also huuuuuuuuge. The US is at least two countries. Currently the wrong version of the US is in charge and Sacoolas is unlikely to be sent to face trial.

OK - a leaned skill with 40 years of reenforcement is not remotely close to hard wiring - I'll go with that.Breadvan72 said:

Agree - the more you do it, the easier it becomes - but for me, there's been some visual prompt that causes the correction - fortunately not a motorbike coming the other wayBreadvan72 said:

Everything I read said something along the lines of recently arrived - but I've not seen any actual term quoted - and lets go with 400m being 'some way'..... mega careless - I can't argue with that - though not sure whether that constitutes dangerous I like the definition
I know it's not rocket science, but surely a helpful addition would be some fking great big arrows painted in the middle of each lane for a distance either side of the base ? Has to be better than a small sign saying drive on the left.....

For the 99999999999999999999999999th time, they drive on the left in the base. They. drive. on. the. left. So why any need for arrows outside the base? Why not arrows everywhere?

I understand they drive on the left - on the prior page you will see that I explain that to someone else.
Arrows - just a 'common sense' suggestion - like they do when a dual carriage goes to single - anywhere there is an increased likelihood of confusion. There is currently a sign at the junction reminding people to drive on the left - They don't put those everywhere either.......
ETA - the sign is in the Metro article - https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/18/police-probe-footag...

It's not case of the USA coming up with a good reason for not extraditing this person, the USA and the UK
have a formal agreement they all signed up for re diplomatic immunity like all countries do
and the same would apply if the situation was reversed.
Once again, did she actually have said DI? Her husband was not a diplomat.have a formal agreement they all signed up for re diplomatic immunity like all countries do

The kicker to this is the report that a police car was hit by someone driving on the wrong side in October.....Really hope one day the woman is brought back to the UK and face the consequences.

Looks to me like that recent footage of the BMW is just lazy driving.
Was it a us citizen driving?
I can't even find it on the BBC news website
It's on the front page:Was it a us citizen driving?

The video footage seems to be desperately clutching at straws. Both cars appear to be going too quickly for the conditions and it looks like the BMW was more surprised and maybe jabbed the brakes a little too hard causing it to lose a little bit of control.
The other point is it's a narrow road and just maybe the BMW was positioned over to the right to see around the bend?
