Where does that crap come from? Surely 'God's country' would indicate thriving prosperity? Perhaps South East England should become independent - we'd be much richer without all the 'hangers-on' North & West of the M25.
Kingdom of Kent anybody??

It's gentle humour and pride from people who are happy where they live without necessarily saying anything derogatory about anyone else in the process.

Someone on Radio 4 suggested that NI could actually end up being in a very favourable economic position if this deal goes through.

By being both in the EU and in the UK it would become a great place for non EU companies to site their European operations.

Perhaps the government should bribe NI with some kind of pro-business tax regime to make this even more attractive...?
The irony of Raab extolling the virtues of NI remaining in the EU, with an open border to Europe, is not lost on those of us with more than half a f**king brain cell. If only the whole UK could have such an opportunity. Oh, wait...

If only you had a few more, you've have worked out that it was NI's potentially 'half in, half out' status that would make it so attractive, but hey ho.

Peoples republic of Yorkshire

Everybody sing our national anthem

Wheear 'as ta bin sin ah saw thee,
On Ilkla Moor baht 'at?!

Bring it on, my birth cert and passport would get me back in there.

Last time I was over there I bought my son one of these:

Sorted!
God's country is North Yorkshire. If you think I'm sharing my passport with the filthy East and South thas misteken!
The fight for North Yorkshire independence starts here!

Yorkshire always looks a mixed bag to me. You’ve obviously got peaceful beautiful parts and then some of the worst places and cities in the U.K.

When you hear about Yorkshire, sometimes it’s the dales, sometimes it’s rape gangs in Rotherham or some other less attractive area.

Obviously most counties are mixed and have good and bad parts but it’s hard to argue that Bradford or Huddersfield should ever be in somewhere considered as god’s own county or country.

As an independent republic it wouldn’t be particularly well off.

It might make money through being a good backdrop for films depicting social decay in Britain in the 1970s though.

Hence fblm specifying North Yorkshire, distinctly. None of the places that you suggested were bad places are in North Yorkshire. It's even a beautiful shade of green on that map! Lovely!

Brexit has certainly emboldened the closet BNP apologists to come out, if not in actual Public, but in Forums like this, as they argue for Leave and the destruction of the UK.

Traitors to Great Britain, Little Englander's, Society's failures seeking fascist comradeship - fawning over Boris who fits the type of Leader they would follow.

PH NP&E is a good window into that horrible place, the decrepit underbelly of England. Fascinating, in its own way. smile

Sure but the others want a Yorkshire passport and then the N Yorkshire splitters are saying hang on it’s only a North Yorkshire republic we want. Presumably in N Yorkshire there will be people saying well no it’s just Harrogate that’s god’s country, Scarborough is rubbish or the Selby lot thinking their bit is gods country.

N Yorkshire has Middlesbrough, a heavily bombed post industrial city. I think parts of the tv series Chernobyl were filmed there.

Like I said Yorkshire is a very mixed bag.

It’s like reading the daily mail comments section. Funny but a bit depressing also.

People saying they want to see the breakup of the U.K. because someone they don’t like in their village is Scottish etc.

It’s the same posters always in the brexit threads though, blaming foreigners and young people and elites for their ills.

I'm not sure any of us Yorkshire folk are actually taking this as serious as you are. Just a bit of light-hearted banter!

In the same vein it's the same Guardian reading, tofu munching, bed wetting posters
arguing that Brexiteers are low IQ swivel-eyed racists.

What's your point ?

Another agreement.

Very rarely do I even bother reading the comments section about politics. It really is poisonous bile with very little substance to fuel it.

I struggle to disagree with the above sentiments.

I stopped posted in here as the views displayed by a vocal minority of Brexiteers were utterly remarkable and not in a good way. I despair at the populist, xenophobic and isolationist ideology that far too many seem to happily embrace.
