Yeah quite. Not sure why the EU pretend to be so bothered when Germany is still opening new coal power stations and burning lignite.
Yup, Germany burning the filthy st hat generates their industry, level playing field ? Last time I checked, about four months ago, Germany were around 47% coal firing.
I think you posted this percentage before and were pulled up on it.

Well, that’s it Varadkar is no more. He’s on his way to see the President to tender his resignation, but will remain caretaker for now

The Irish Parliament has Rejected Martin of FF and Mary Lou of SF as well

So there is no consensus in Ireland and potentially months of horse trading and maybe even another election

The last February election in 2016 where the numbers were no where near as polarised took till June for them to sort out a Govt

So .. the ROI is now drifting rudderless and without direction at a very critical time in the EU/UK negotiations

We may get several months down the line and then end up with another GE in the summer .. with yet more horse trading

I think this is really the last thing needed at the moment especially if we’d end up in the critical time zone and Ireland ends up with an Anti EU anti UK hard left Govt.

The only certainty from tonight is that Varadkar and Coveney are neutered and powerless to make any decisions

Interesting times

I’ve read you saying that SF is anti EU and anti U.K quite a bit lately. You also posted part of their manifesto where IIRC they say that they don’t agree with some aspects of the EU and that it needs change but from within.

History would also make me believe that if they were in power they would side with the EU over the U.K in an instant.

But at what cost to the EU ? And would their demands be acceptable.. I doubt it

But hey I haven’t got a clue what’s going to happen laugh

Poland 80% from coal.
Yes it makes a mockery of our efforts in cleaning up pollution, I wish Greta would take on a European tour. In fairness the Eastern European Countries cannot possibly afford the investment into clean energy. Germany however!!
Somebody mention Polish coal smilesmile
You may need to look closer to home come end of the year wink
May I recommend ‘Old Glory’ direct from Scotland, just trying to cover all the bases here hehe

Some comparative data.
Thanks, I always find it interesting.seeing how our neighbours are coping with the called for reductions in coal burning.Ironical really as I am a major fan of steam traction smile

Thanks, all of the stats on google tell us that the Germans. are actually burning coal to produce around 40% of their total needs. My estimate is around 5% out, that’al save the planet. The point is they are a wealthy mature Country burning far to much coal setting a terrible example to the row.
No excuses they have the money, tech, labour and know how to get catching up with the U.K. on clean energy. Of course the Germans e something of a record when it comes to flouting clean air, step forward VW.

Nah, the domestic workforce can't be persuaded to polish coal.
If it moves salute it, if it doesn't paint it. hehe

Odd watching the Newsnight update on the pre negotiations flap around the likely parameters of the negotiating position from the EU + reaction to David Frost’s speech.

Various EU heads seem convinced that the PD is what matters. I am fairly sure the PD was supposed to be a position and not legally binding? An assumption that the U.K. will adhere to dynamic alignment in a number of areas seems to be the biggest change in positioning and if the PD isn’t binding then the British position will change.

Will be interesting to see the mood music out of the first sessions in March. Will UKgov ramp up no deal preparedness? Will the EU slam down the shutters if there is no movement?

As I said, the interpretation of alignment (that was in the PD) appears to have shifted. Dynamic alignment appears to be part of the EU proposals. Thus the kick off.

What's dynamic alignment?

If the Aquis Communitaire changes then British Law changes. So in 5 years time a new directive is applied then the U.K. adopts.

Well it matters not, I've been saved from coal painting duties by George Eustice. Environment minister to announce today coal and wood fires to be banned.

You might laugh .. but my Dad who was in the RAF at the end of the War and upto ‘49 told a tale of a Royal visit to their airfield one summer where the big honcho flew over the parade field which was a little brown.. too brown for the Royal visitor

So not only were all the kerbs painted white ... but the grass was painted GREEN
