On the other hand this Twitter thread is worth a read. I know, sorry, Twitter, but Graeme Archer is the guy who wrote an excellent piece on Unherd telling Labour why they lost.

Remember when us brexiteers got triggered over 50p coins that celebrated our ties with the EU from as early as 73?

Ahh, back in the day when 50p could buy something.

Now it won't even put fresh air in your tyres.

It was a BP petrol station, it increased a few months ago from 50p to £1.

I tend to use Sainsburys now as it's free but I have to go out of my way for that.

Toys. Pram.

Given that most of it was opinion pieces, I cannot really understand how a newspaper can sustain a position that helps absolutely no-one. It's the most nihilistic, unproductive, negative attitude possible, offering readers no way out of the death spiral.

If you've been fed a diet of that for the last three years, I don't know how you'd manage to drag your weary bones out of bed in the morning - you've been talked down, all hope removed and every avenue forward rejected. It makes sense of how some people post on here, there really is no room for any other viewpoint, and the politics are painted such that anyone saying otherwise is "the enemy".
Some ‘news’ papers have been drip feeding anti EU sentiment for a few decades, and that makes more sense as to why some people post on here.

Oh give over (especially with the why don't you move schtick) I was just counter balancing Tunas post regarding being 'fed' things from Newspapers.

Where did I say the Eu is a such a beacon of freedom and common sense? you seem to like a straw man as much as Tuna.

I have moved on, we're leaving, I don't agree that it's the best thing for the country but hey ho.

That’s Brexit for you, but then there were always going to be winners and losers.

How much does going out of your way cost you in fuel/mileage and time?

I thought Brexit voters were meant to be the economically illiterate ones....

The comment was on how that particular newspaper was handling the inevitable event - they were doubling down on the gloom and dismissing any way forward that wasn't outright opposition.

As a political stance, I can understand that. However, psychologically the corner they've painted themselves into is problematic, both for their editorial and the wellbeing of their readers.

...

As for 'years of anti EU headlines' (because we all want to re-run the Referendum arguments)... surely the Guardian, Independent, Observer and all the others had plenty of opportunity for pro-EU messaging?

So many lies that a web site exists to refute them.

Just for a laugh, I clicked into that link and picked the first one of interest. Abolition of the zero rate of VAT on books.

The rebuttal was that the directive doesn't force member states with zero rating on books to remove it now, but in 4 years time. The story isn't true now, but it will be in 4 years time.

Are the rest of them similarly flawed? I don't have time to trawl through them all.

I don't doubt. As a family member worked for the Commission, we heard directly about some of those. Many were caused by the Commission itself, which tended to raise 'worst case scenarios' as part of negotiations over any new directive as a means of shaking out the priorities of stakeholders.

Again though, not the point here. I'm genuinely expecting some people will be driven to self harm over the next week and think the papers that are pursuing this nihilistic agenda should consider the consequences of their editorial stance.

Not expecting flowers and celebrations, but given this is an inevitable change, I'd expect some coping mechanisms to be deployed.
