The decision by the IPCC to centre its fifth assessment report on its most extreme scenario has been incredibly consequential. Thousands of academic studies of the future impacts of climate change followed the lead of the IPCC, and have emphasized the most extreme scenario as “business as usual” which is often interpreted and promoted as where the world is heading.
For instance, so far in 2019 two new academic studies have been published every day that present this most extreme scenario as “business as usual” and predict extreme future impacts. Journalists promote these sensationalist findings, which are amplified by activists and politicians and as a consequence climate change becomes viewed as being more and more apocalyptic.
The problem with the extreme “business as usual” scenario of the IPCC’s fifth assessment report is that it is already out of date. For 2020 the scenario wildly overstates emissions, and has been critiqued in the academic literature as a highly unlikely if not impossible future.
The bottom line for today is to understand that a fateful decision by the IPCC to selectively anoint an extreme scenario from among a huge range of possible futures has helped to create the climate apocalypse, a scary but imaginary future.

The 5 corrupt pillars of climate change denial.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/theconversation.com/a...
The fossil fuel industry, political lobbyists, media moguls and individuals have spent the past 30 years sowing doubt about the reality of climate change - where none exists. The latest estimate is that the world’s five largest publicly-owned oil and gas companies spend about US$200 million a year on lobbying to control, delay or block binding climate policy.
Their hold on the public seems to be waning. Two recent polls suggested over 75% of Americans think humans are causing climate change. School climate strikes, Extinction Rebellion protests, national governments declaring a climate emergency, improved media coverage of climate change and an increasing number of extreme weather events have all contributed to this shift. There also seems to be a renewed optimism that we can deal with the crisis.

As I've said a few times on this thread, there's loads of money and appetite for denial but it doesn't seem to have that much effect.
The biggest funding issue is the remaining political funding of the political advocacy group IPCC. Talk about largesse, talk about vested interests. It should re-form with the first I standing for Independent, and get its funding other than from the international public purse. As that would be in essence a dissolution, and there's already a Non-governmental version, it might as well just disband. It's still promoting timelined climageddon claptrap that even The Team's NASA GISS modeller says is pure nonsense. Timeshare pressure sales techniques have more credibility.

The Koch Brothers?
The last of the pennies from the coffers of the GWPF?
Exxon?
Sounds like a plan to me.
