New nuclear plant at Sizewell set for green light

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54754016

The government is close to giving the green light to a new nuclear power station at Sizewell in Suffolk.
The BBC has learned that talks with the Sizewell contractor, EDF, have intensified in recent weeks.
This comes after the collapse of projects in Anglesey and Cumbria when Japanese firms Hitachi and Toshiba pulled out.
Government officials are insisting that it "remains committed to new nuclear"..........continues

Obviously don't have a real belief that renewables can do the job then.

As was predicted, we will end up paying for the energy twice, the renewables and the back up generator.

Their new Proselytiser-in-Chief Justin Rowlett also said:

"I've travelled all over the world for the BBC and seen evidence of environmental damage and climate change everywhere. It's the biggest challenge humanity has ever faced. Tackling it means changing how we do virtually everything. We are right to be anxious and afraid at the prospect, but I reckon we should also see this as a thrilling story of exploration, and I'm delighted to have been given the chance of a ringside seat as chief environment correspondent."

Nice to see another impartial journalist present balanced coverage to the license fee payer. It's due to the unique way they're funded of course.

Interesting! So is Monnin et al (etc) which show that like carbon dioxide, methane lags temperature shifts, so isn't causal.
It's a feedback dummy, and that comes from physics, not wiggle-matching.

You and your pattern-seeking - how's that been working out for you? biggrin

Lettuce be grateful for tax gas, the base of the global food chain.

Shimomura et al (2020).

-as CO2 levels rise in the years and decades ahead
-chlorogenic acid content of lettuce will increase further
-producing more of this effective antioxidant is beneficial for human consumption
-with benefits to health

Obviously the paper was looking at pre-2050 wink as the tax gas level will faaaaaaaaaaaaaaall so fast beyond the date of the miracle.

Interesting to see this change in strategy from the GWPF and the like. Now they've realised they can no longer convince people it's not real they are trying to sell the positives of a warming planet, as turbobloke dutifully promotes for them here.

I mean on one hand you have situations like this across the world:
Australia will lose more than $3 trillion and 880,000 jobs over 50 years if climate change is not addressed
Story: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-11-02/australian-...

But then as turbobloke says here, our lettuces might be slightly more healthy.

It's a real tricky one. scratchchin

This slipped by largely under the radar, it must be election time somewhere.

-the NOAA acting chief scientist was sacked in September
-McLean emailed Trump appointees wagging his finger about science and politics (awesome!)
-the next day he was sacked, something to do with science and politics
-replaced soon afterwards by Dr Ryan Maue, a former researcher for the Cato Institute

The right-on climate left will love that, though not all of it. The politics of climate change marches on.

That's right, Trump has replaced many top positions in US organisations with people who have no relevant knowledge or experience but tell him what he wants to hear, to the detriment of the environment, climate and public health. We've already seen a glimpse at how well that will work out with the pandemic.

Scientific American covers it here:

Scientific American said:
The past four years have been marked by extensive deregulatory efforts that affect climate and public health. The Trump administration has also taken various steps that could undercut access to health care. And it has appointed industry officials to scientific advisory boards and made other moves that are likely to diminish the role and influence of scientific expertise.
Source: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/seven-w...

All this stuff has nothing to do with right-left wing politics and only displaces the role of science in policy making in favour of mindless ideology, so it's absolutely no surprise to see the deniers celebrating it.

Here's another Scientific American article from back when this was going on:

By shrinking the economy. Imagine a much, much more extreme version of the corona virus measures.

Hhmmm. That might get those that believe humans are affecting the planet, and its climate what they are really looking for.
As I said before, even if we don't have the answer to so called AGW and its other effects, nature probably will have. The only problem with nature, is that by its very nature, the answer it comes up with probably wont be humane.

If we are all living in the stone age, then we will only be emitting CO2 from our camp fires.

"news" laugh

In case anyone's wondering, it's just the usual stuff promoted by the usual source and faithfully shared by their representative here. The first one is the only one with substance but has no relevance to today and is just shared for propaganda purposes.

The second is about two people "fleeing" wind turbines (I didn't read the full thing so assume the turbines became sentient and have been chasing them).

The third is some barking mad Australian website with the strapline "we are not here to debate the wind industry, we're here to DESTROY it". Definitely the kind of place you go to when you are looking for well-reasoned and rational arguments.

Indeed and dying in our millions / billions, in a world which can no longer support the colossal global human population.
I wonder what a stone age combine harvester, or fishing vessel or food manufacturing organization would look / go like?
