I didn`t write that deforestation started in the 1500s. I found some data showing deforestation happening since 1500, not that it started then. I couldn´t find anything before that time (except that at the end of he last ice age Bavaria had almost no trees, it was a tundra ecosystem) so didn`t bother commenting on it.

The photo would be regularly plastered on the front page of every newspaper in Germany if it showed a clear pattern of increased flooding. It doesn`t support the narrative, so it isn`t. As it is, it would be an act of climate denial/defiant heresy to publish it on the front page.
That’s kind of the point I was making - the flood (and drought) photos and stats that turbobloke has been posting are meaningless unless the wider context is taken into account.

No, this is the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, not emissions.

Emissions as collated by the IEA are here:

A perfect example of a government CC initiative, announce them without any critical examination as to whether they're feasible or possible, and then farm it off to a private consortium to administer. What can possibly go wrong?

Turbobloke is providing examples that counter the climate emergency narrative, I don't think he actually believes that individual occurrences of anything are evidence of anything.

Like you say, the wider context is what needs to be taken into account, and the wider, global, context shows that flooding and drought haven't increased.

We clearly need a climate emergency lockdown that is much more severe than the mild and ineffective pandemic ones.

Some actual climate politics happening today with Biden summit.

Climate change: Biden summit to push for immediate action https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-568...

“President Biden has made climate change a key focus in the early days of his administration. . . .

As well as re-joining the Paris climate agreement on his first day in office, he announced early on that he would gather around 40 world leaders for a global summit on Earth Day - 22 April. . . .

It's expected that the US will unveil an updated carbon pledge that will see its emissions nearly halved by 2030. . . “

Kawasicki - the photo doesn't really send out any messages apart from the fact that the town floods. It also tends to counter your point re deforestation and flooding in this area (I do agree it can cause flooding) given that the two biggest floods happened in the 1500s (before you suggest deforestation happened) and in 2013.

"if it showed a clear pattern of increased flooding"

I see you've spotted it's happened twice within 11 years.

You're right - not a 'clear' pattern. Not quite wink

The U.K. isn’t doing much different.

From the article,

“The UK is among the countries that have been keen to show their ambition ahead of the meeting. Earlier in the week, the prime minister announced a "world-leading" target for the UK to cut emissions by 78% on 1990 levels by 2035. “

It happened twice within 4 years.

This searching for patterns (where none necessarily exist) is fun.

Indeed, similar for confident statements that floods aren't increasing based on thin evidence.

Yes, no-one should be making confident statements based on thin evidence... climate science has a lot to answer for.

Climate change: US surprises summit with bold emissions target

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-568...

The US has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 50-52% below 2005 levels by the end of this decade.
This new target, which will be unveiled at a virtual summit of 40 global leaders, essentially doubles their previous promise.
The Americans hope that their ambitious new plan will encourage China, India and others to go further before the crucial COP26 meeting, in Glasgow in November.
But there will be some scepticism about the ability of the US to deliver on its new target, given the divided nature of American politics.....continues

Creative carbon accounting will come to the fore/rescue. It's a bit like the UK`s proud record on CO2 reduction, which looks great, until you add the emissions associated with the ever increasing quantity of imported goods.

Not just the US, there’s loads of countries including U.K. setting similar targets.

Weird how they’re still not listening to you dickymint and turbobloke? They’re all falling for it!

The USA needs to commission two 2.25 gigawatt nuclear power plants EVERY WEEK UNTIL 2030, STARTING THIS WEEK, to meet the new presidents objective. Looks as if President Biden is the one who fallen for it.

Why don’t you tell them? It would be far more useful than continually posting it here surely.

Can you post up any reply you get?

It doesn't matter that it is "pie in the sky" thinking, it's the warm fuzzy feeling that matters. Every little helps!
