Sky are running a piece on someone's whose installed a heat pump plus installation of cladding and other insulation, citing a big reduction in energy bills. (No link, sorry, just on the rolling news)

There was some talk of the Scottish scheme which left people with higher bills some pages ago. (*)

So.....is it cheaper to go electric for heating, or not? scratchchin (or only if you tax the fk out of gas and apply large subsidies to electric?)
This is the question...except they’re hoping to skew the market by withdrawing gas boilers first. All the ‘analysis’ on the BBC keeps talking up air source heat pumps, without offering a direct comparison that I’ve heard. They did offer a real life example of a chap upgrading his old property and citing a £12k premium for the heat pump, without any running cost example.

However, by 2035 when the ban operates there’s a strong chance energy prices could be very different to today’s, making any comparisons immaterial.

As a household with a 12 year old gas boiler it’s a question we’re going to have to face sooner rather than later.

The biggest "skew" so far was announced earlier this month that the green tax from our electric bills is to be scrapped and as if by magic transferred onto our gas bills banghead

Climate politics is definitely all over, it's got people COPping abour all over the place in private jets.

Excellent article, as long as nobody considers logical fallacies (argumentum ad populum mixed with argumentum ad verecundiam). Politicians will love it, they have 'certainty' and moreover they have a rock solid definite source of / target for blame transfer when the carbon hits the fan.
