My 7 year old daughter would like a longboard skateboard for cruising around parks etc. Is there such a thing, if so where can I get one and what size? 2 skate shops I asked said they have never been asked for one so don't have anything in stock. One did point me towards a pink Penny 22" but said it might be a little fast for a beginner?

She scooters to school everyday and is heavily into downhill MTBing. She has the balance ability and we have all the necessary knee/elbow guards etc.

Decathlon sell them. I'm not sure if they're child specific, but my kids (10 & 11) can use them with ease.

Scooters and downhill mtb are a very different proposition to skateboarding. I would just order a basic longboard off ebay and see how she takes to it. Make sure she wears knee, elbow and wrist guards along with a helmet.

She will fall over a lot at first!

At 7 years old she may find an adult size cruiser style skate deck easier to handle than a proper long board.... bit more versatile too, the UK isn't exactly overrun with suitable longboarding terrain. You can get kids size longboards here and there though.

Give Skate Hut a call - 0121 501 1111

They should be able to help you out.

Second recommendation for Decathlon.

Teenage son, who also has a shorter Penny board, is very happy with his long board from Decathlon, decent price too.

I would avoid a longboard. You can only really use them properly on long stretches of downhill tarmac, with lots of disaster potential that MTBing may not, given soft surfaces and brakes.... Maybe get a conventional skateboard with soft wheels - around 88a - and tighten the trucks up. You should find this is quite suitable for a first board, and it'll have the flexibility for street skating as well. Skatewarehouse is a good place to look, and also sell longboards.
